Non Iron shirts

Has anyone bought a shirt where it says on the tin that no ironing is needed. Washed the shirt and it came out crumpled even though I had it on the reduced crease cycle on the machine. Hung it up over night in the hope that a miracle might occur and all the creases drop out. Sadly not. Just spent 10 mins trying to iron the flippin thing. I have decided there is another meaning to non iron, which really means despite how much elbow greece you put into it the stupid thing just won't iron.

I have a couple of M&S dress shirts that make a similar claim, it works out just fine but they do need to be drip dried ... Mobietta shows the cuffs and fancy front the iron but no more than that.

Does exactly what it says on the tin

ps ... non iron may mean that the shirt does not contain iron ... or is that nuts ?

All my husband's shirts for work are non iron. I tumble dry them and hang them up straight away and voila - no creases whatsoever.

I just go to the wardrobe and all my shirts are hanging, mysteriously already ironed.

I will tumble dry it next time and see if that helps. It wasn't a cheap shirt.

It probably depends to some extent on your standards. What you think needs ironing might look OK to others. I have had quite a few shirts that purported to be non-iron but none seemed to satisfy Mrs K - she ironed them anyway.

I dont take any notice, and iron them anyway if it is my turn to do the ironing. I like nicely ironed shirts. I do have trouble with dress shirts on the ship though. Somehow those piddling little ironing boards defeat me and I have taken to putting them through the ship's laundry.

I put one of my virtually brand new dress shirts through the ship's laundry on Oriana, December 2012, but it came back two sizes smaller ... so if anybody needs ...

Are you sure it was the shirt that shrank?

My husband has a few non iron shirts and I suppose some would think they look ok ... I don't so they are always ironed.

I think some may be confusing "non-iron" with "non crease"! All my clothes are non-iron if I don't mind looking like a scarecrow!

When we buy clothes for our cruises one thing we consider is whether it will survive the ship's laundry service. This year they managed to ruin several items we had sent because someone put bleach into the machine in error. We were compensated for the items but of course we couldn't replace them at the time.

At the cheaper end of the market non iron, crease resistant, easy care usually means a high proportion of polyester ... Generally i wouldn't wear polyester so usually go for quality shirts (except white, i buy them cheap, wear them once or twice and then give them to a charity shop ... Nothing worse than a cream/grey 'white' shirt).

If ypu go for a quality non-iron shirt then they aren't too bad ... But describing even them as non-iron is pushing credulity.

Actually it was the shirt in this instance, the collar size didn't fit following their laundry job and it doesn't fit now but at the time we were up to our a**es in NV so I couldn't be bothered to chase it up

Mobietta, you know ... the one who is in charge of my shirts, says that they have to be drip dried and NOT be put in the tumbler.

WhenI was in the middle east, we had no option but to send our laundry off to be done - they ironed everything - even the buttons on our shirts.

The problem was that ironing a crease in a shirt button tends to snap it in half.....

That's another thing I found with the ship's laundry, they tend to iron trouser creases in the wrong place and snap buttons in half. Still I much prefer it to using the launderette, after all I'm on holiday.

I can't say that I love ironing - far from it - but ironing shirts is a must regardless of what the label might say
