. . . . with nothing better to do, I popped into my local Costa emporium for a small Americano with hot milk - just £1.80 plus a rack of daily news papers

This gorgeous little girl offered me one of her biscuits - I thought it prudent to except her kind offer, and we had quite an interesting chat

I was well "made up"

How nice was that ?

what made my day was last Saturday I organised a funday for local children.

It ended with a short service in church with a drama and the chance for the children to show to their parents etc what they had done.

One mum couldn't come to the service so I emailed her the piccies and a comment on how well her child had read with very little rehearsal with the sound system.

She replied saying: that her child was "very proud of herself...'I feel free in church. I can achieve more here' is what she'd said, when asked how did she feel standing up front in Church."

I was ecstatic - made all the exhaustion worthwhile.

Oh and the vicar brought me some flowers this afternoon as a thank you (and on his day off!)

I did a family history for a lady in Canada last week. It transpired that her grandfather was born in The Three Sugar Loaves, one of my favourite watering holes in Bristol (although it was The White Horse Beer House when he was born at the turn of the last century). I took some photos of it for her last week and emailed them to her

Apparently there's a drink now waiting for me in Ontario.

Where we mainly live now we are relative newcomers, but the lovely well wishes etc we've had at our news of starting out on the grandparent trail have been truly heart warming.

Reminds me ...

We have been going into Costas and Neros etc for some time now to get our mid morning fixes and each time I have to explain that I would like a double shot of expresso topped with a modest amount of hot milk and that it be served in a medium sized cup .... fussy or what ?

Not at all fussy as I make them at home, so how come Costa can't do one ... well, thanks to their Northampton Outlet it seems that they do and it is called a ' Flat White '.

MOB - that is just how I like coffee. I always ask for a double espresso with a small jug of milk - I can't believe it's that unusual. I like strong coffee and if I ask for an ordinary filter or Americano it's never strong enough. I use Nespresso pods at home and then have some hot milk on top - prefer it to froth.

Carole .... I just knew I couldn't be the only one who likes coffee done that way

We used to have a Kenwood ' Retro ' machine with little dials n switches that used ' ESE ' pods but have now upgraded to a Delonghi ' Bean to Cup ' machine which is sublime, coffee taste - wise, albeit a tad costly.

Well my day has just been made ... a friend who tried to take her life at the start of this week regained consciousness in the early hours of this morning .. and the doctors expect a full (physical) recovery.

I'm very pleased to hear that, Ken. I am sure you will be amongst those who will give her the support she needs to get through whatever trauma brought her to that point of desparation.

My day is always made when my son, who has almost no hearing (cannot hear speech) and now has little remaining eyesight plays 'Misty' and 'As time goes by' on the piano. He's pretty good too.

( although the cash is still stashed away from my birthday in May

Yes we'll be there Graham, you can be sure of that, but not speeding

Last Thursday we tried that lovely little French cafe opposite The Clock House, very nice lunch time snacks. Sue worked in The Clock House for several years when it was the Opticians. She used to say "Ah, Wimborne, the centre of the universe". We would love to live there, but moving is such sweet sorrow

It only makes money for Banks, Solicitors, and Estate Agents, and lots of stress for the sellers and buyers.
