Re: WE WUZ BRUNG UP PROPER !!
A brilliant post OBF!
I remember Virol, Fennings Fever Mixture (disgusting), Minadex (Yuk!), Radio Malt, Playing "up top fields", or "over tunnel hills", "in bluebell woods", in Linslade. The milk man brought the milk to the door daily in a churn, and dispensed it with a 1 pint jug, whence it was kept in the pantry in jugs.
My cousin told me just recently that as a baby, when there were air raids, I was put in the bottom drawer of a chest of drawers, (1941 to 1942). I remeber my Aunt's friend fell over in the "blackout" broke her arm and had it set in "plaster of paris", as small child I was fascinated with those words.
A swift clip around the ear was administered for minor misdemeanors at home.
The Eagle, the Childrens Newspaper, Beano and Dandy. Making a crystal set to listen to The Goon Show. My first girl friend; the girl next door...we are still friends.
We were made to go to bed at 8.30pm right up to my 15th birthday.
We survived. Happy days for us, but our parents had had much worse with the aftermath of WW!, the depression, and WW2. Death from TB, Diptheria, etc was common for their generations.
Yes, amazing that we got this far.
