What would you save?
I have been following the reports of the fires this year in Australia and some people are only given a few minutes to evacuate their houses .. they have to make a decision about what to take in a short space of time and sometimes it is only what they can carry
If you only had 5 minutes and could only take what you could carry what would you save?
PS: No jokes about the OH .. I did say 'what you could carry'

I think I would just get the hell out but appreciate some would have sentimental items/photo's etc that would be irreplaceable but other than that everything can be replaced.

Re: What would you save?
My wallet, two cats and the wife, of course.
But not necessarily in that order. Oh, and my small rack of back up DVDs that have all my photos and software.

You sound too organised Frank. Do you have them all in bag ready just in case

My iPad that has all important stuff on and one particular framed photo of our three children when small. Other stuff may have sentimental value, but almost everything else could be replaced - there is no other copy of this photo.

Don't forget to dig up and save your favourite plants.
We're talking major fire here Frank. Flames licking at your front door, not chip pan showing a spark or two.

I have been wondering about this .. and possibly Julies collection of Doug Hydes would make it onto the list .. and I suppose my wallet with my credit cards in it.
All my documents, paperwork, photos, videos, books etc. etc. are backed up (with 2 copies at home and one in the office ... autosyncing ensures they are always up to date) .. and the vast majority is also backed up onto the cloud as well.

Re: What would you save?
It depends on exactly how much time I had. Hopefully enough to take insurance policies, passports, driver's licences etc. Most important of all would be all the family photos which we could never replace.

I dont know about organised, but yes I have a ready steady go kit.Susan Watt wrote:You sound too organised Frank. Do you have them all in bag ready just in case
If I carry on like this I am going to come over as a first class geek!! I think it is something coming from my working in the safety side of industries for so long. I always have the mobile phone by my bed every night, with a torch in the drawer. We have 4 sets of security lights, and the burglar alarm is set every night.

Worst case scenario
Hence the mobile phone and the torch, at night. Fire brigade told me that if any of the fire alarms go off, make only a cursory investigation. If escape is not clear, then shut the bedroom door and dial 999, we will get to you before the fire does.

Laptop bag with laptop, various discs and important paperwork and various leads, and mobile phone. Also jewellery and car keys - and don't let's forget medication (if necessary).
I reckon husband would do the same with his laptop and maybe his new camera - he would still have a hand free to carry something else - but I can't think what - maybe an overnight bag with some of our 'treasures' inside.

In New Zealand which is prone to having earthquakes and tsunamis everyone is advised to have an "emergency" box with essentials in - even our grandchildren have one each. Perhaps not such a bad idea.

it's a bit of a habit - everything can be to hand quite quickly really. However, if I am going to 'go up like an Xmas Pud' as mentioned above, PLEASE be careful where to stick the decorative bit of holly - and NO silver threepenny bits, thankyou!

My Teddy Bear, who I've had since I was three months old, and my P&O brochure so I can plan my alternative accommodation while the house gets fixed.

And I bet you'd go back because you'd forgotten your favourite nail varnish, handbag, shoes etc...

Re: What would you save?
Assuming my husband and the dog are safe, I'd take our fireproof box which has all our important papers in, house insurance, wills ,birth certificates and also has some old videos of the children when they were young at various events , competitions , shows etc in it. Then if there was time I'd try to take some of my photo albums, and the I pad, but if there were only minutes to spare I'd just get out quick !
