Same here DK, the wind has got up slightly in the last couple of hours but nothing like I was expecting unless it's the 'Calm before the Storm'
Hope everyone stayed safe.

Re: Storm Force Winds
Slept through until 6am and so far it looks like the only things that have taken a battering are the apple trees with loads of apples on the lawn. Luckily, we had taken the glass out of the old rickety green house which had been left by the previous owners and is a good 20+ years old. We will dismantle the frame later on when things calm down. Got a phone call from son who has lost his plastic type greenhouse - it has lost the back of it and has buckled and collapsed and he has also lost some fencing so we are off round there later to see if we can help with the fencing, at least.

8.45 am Peaceful here! Bit of blue sky, sun trying to get his hat on, and only a breeze. Are we lucky or did they get it wrong again.

Re: Storm Force Winds
Yep, all over here, not that it was that bad, had worse.
The worst had fizzled out by the time it had reached us. The only slight damage was to one of our tall rose stems which is taking a rest on the grass. A neighbours aerial is now pointing South, other than that all is fine.
Sun now out and clear blue sky's.

Really sorry for you guys down south, especially Gilld46. It sounds like the Midlands and further up north have escaped the worst of the weather.
Just had a phone call to say my little caravan has survived.... Yippee.

So pleased to hear the good news about the caravan. I have been worrying about it all night!! All is well here in Shakespeare's County, rain has stopped, sun is shining and a breeze is blowing. Hardly dare "speak too soon". However, so sorry for those who are suffering from the worst of the storm.

Re: Storm Force Winds
Thanks for your concern Shirley,
I didn’t go to bed until 2am this morning as I was watching the weather forecast hoping for the best.
We relocated the Van just over a year ago; it now “Still” sits perched on the side of a Mountain overlooking the Dovey...thankfully not in it.
Regards
Keith

No problems here in Middle England. A fairly calm night, really. Maybe a bit wet and blustery but nothing like the storm that was forecast. Looks like it all passed well to the south. Hope all you cruisers on the coast are OK

Thank you. The roofer has been and the Dry Verge(???) had moved letting in the rain. He has now repaired it,so hopefully it should be ok.Onelife wrote:Really sorry for you guys down south, especially Gilld46. It sounds like the Midlands and further up north have escaped the worst of the weather.

Headline from BBC news
A 17-year-old girl and a man in his 50s are killed by falling trees, while 220,000 homes are without power and commuters are stranded, as a storm batters parts of southern Britain.
This is a report from BBC news for our area
Clacton Pier helter-skelter blown down as storm hits Essex
The helter-skelter is normally visible above the Clacton Pier sign.
Fallen trees affect East commuters
The helter-skelter at Clacton Pier has blown down after Essex was hit by strong winds.
Tendring District Council said it collapsed early in the morning, but the structure had not fallen into the sea.
Eyewitness Chris Woodley said the slide appeared to have fallen on to the amusement arcade and the rollercoaster looked like it was "breaking up".
The pier's owner is at the scene assessing the damage, but did not wish to comment.
Another eyewitness said: "It was the tallest thing on the pier, the kids loved it."
A council spokesman spoke of disappointment at the ride collapsing, saying: "Any of the main rides on the pier are crucial to Clacton."
He added that so many trees had also fallen down in the district, it was "running out of chainsaws".
Essex Police said a number of trees had fallen on to roads across the county, but no major incidents had occurred.
The storm has affected commuters in Essex, with most rail services throughout the county being suspended.
A lorry has also blown over on the M11 near Harlow, causing congestion.

Re: Storm Force Winds
Near Southampton - all is fairly calm - sunny - heard the wind last night but we seem to have escaped as far as I know locally. Haven't had any reports of trees down etc. It seems as though Wales and the South East - Essex have had it worse than we have. Of course we are somewhat protected by the Isle of Wight and I know it was really blowing there.
Gill, glad to hear you were able to get the roofer quickly and that all is repaired.

Well here in Cambridgeshire the worst seems to have passed us by. Daughter , son in law and the grandchildren are in our caravan ( static ,not tourer thankfully ) on the east coast but they've not had it too bad either, lots of rain and wind but not as bad as was forecast. They just have a little leak in a skylight, but overall thank goodness everyone's fine , hope all our fellow forumers are the same.

Thank you Kaymar. The house is still standing , the huge crash about 3am was the table tennis table falling over, scared the life out of myself and the dog! The hens were taken indoors and spent the night in the utility area, I had no idea that 2 small chooks contained so much poohkaymar wrote:Sorry to hear of your problems darn sarf, especially H.K. and friends on the IOW.
