Re: Billy Spooner
I was surprised last night when I said to Julie and she shed a tear ... I knew she had loved the evening in Billys company (and the others there) but it was obvious that his larger than life personality left a lasting impression on her. She asked me to pass on her regards.
Last night I was finishing off an assignment and rummaged through some of my pictures and videos of that night and came across a very short snippet of Billy doing his Dame Shirl interpretive dance, I wish I had have got more of it but I actually could not hold the camera because I was laughing so much.

A real shock, I can't believe it.
I was fortunate to have met Billy at the Adonia naming ceremony and a larger than life character you couldn't have wished to meet.
A sad loss
R.I.P Billy

We've got a couple of photos too, I've posted one of them on Billy's FB page as it always makes me smile.Kendhni wrote:I was surprised last night when I said to Julie and she shed a tear ... Along with ken, Stephen and a few others from this and the old forum I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting Billy and a more pleasant character you couldn’t wish to meet.
Real shame RIP Billy.

What a shock. We were privileged enough to meet Billy on our Black Sea cruise last year. Saw and chatted a bit with Billy most evenings down in Brodies. Anyone who has met Billy, and those who haven't will miss him.
RIP shipmate.

Such a shock to hear this news. Along with many of his other friends I will miss him. We had such fun last year on Azura to the Black Sea. Our 5 o'clock parties were such fun - especially if there was a sailaway. The evening we spent at the belly-dancing club in Instanbul helped to make this one of the best cruises ever. When we visited Malta he was so excited to meet up with friends and plan his pending retirement on the island.
Billy - you were always the life and soul of any party and such a kind, caring man - you will be greatly missed. May you rest in peace.
God bless

Just read the bit about the belly dancing club and I now remember reading about it on the old site.
Never met him but he enjoyed his cruises. So sad.

I remember reading of your daily exploits on that cruise too. You all sounded like you had a brilliant time and some of the messages that Billy was posting back to us on facebook were hilarious - even the ones when he was sober !
He'll be greatly missed, but I hope you can console yourself with the fact that you had some great times with a great friend.

Billy was so looking forward to his 65th birthday bash in December & was making plans for his retirement to Malta, at least he managed to live life to the full & more

That is so sad Wina. To think he was so close to enjoying his retirement. Far too young to die.

Life can be so cruel sometimes - after my own loss I encourage anyone to live life to the full and Billy certainly did that and so many people will have wonderful memories of time spent with him and he will never be forgotten.Wina G wrote:Billy was so looking forward to his 65th birthday bash in December & was making plans for his retirement to Malta, at least he managed to live life to the full & more

I have put my 2 favourite photos of Billy in the gallery. If any of you have any pics of him, please add them. Ken, is there any way you can upload Billy doing the Shirley Bassey interpretive dance? I'd love to see that.

It is obvious from the many posts that this gentleman was a very nice man
A question, was this the gentleman that attended a royal function at Buckingham Palace a while ago ?

RIP shipmate.
As I did the same cruise this year, I read all the reports about last years cruise, and Billy came across as a really lovely man.
Such a shock to hear he's no longer with us, and lost at a comparatively young age too.
My thoughts are with his family and all his friends.

I too was at that belly dancing club in Istanbul. I remember Billy up on the stage, lounging on the chase with the girls dancing around him. He had a great time and he had us all in stitches laughing. We also had drinks with him in Oliver Reeds bar in Malta. It was his favourite bar and he was so looking forward to spending his retirement there LOL. Such a lovely man. So sadly missed. Hugs to Mally and Martin. I know that you will miss your friend very much. RIP Billy.xsunsetsail2night wrote:Such a shock to hear this news. Along with many of his other friends I will miss him. Happy Birthday Billy, it would have been your 65th birthday today & you were so looking forward to the party tonight xx
The Chatsworth, his local pub, are still going ahead with the party in memory of Billy
There still isn't any news about funeral arrangements, by all accounts there's still lots of paperwork to do

Today I would have finally got to meet my dear friend Billy at his party in his much loved local pub. I feel so sad today but so glad to have known this lovely man, even if he was just a cyber friend. His Facebook page is a testament to how much he was loved.
