Who's spying on who?
I have been following the spying allegation stories with increasing amusement as the media is getting more and more out of control with bad and mis-leading reporting. The bottom line is that if you use technology (e.g. mobile phones) or want an online presence whether that be forums/Facebook/Twitter/Blogs/photosites/email/skype etc. etc. then someone somewhere will be monitoring it. People quickly forget that often it is at their own request (due to over reaction to a news story) that such monitoring is allowed.
However the most comical one has hit the news today ... apparently Google is outraged at NSA hacking ... I am assuming this is the same Google that has also been accused of hacking and monitoring what everybody is doing.

I also find the current spate of outrage somewhat amusing. It is as if nobody knew it was going on and "our country" would never do a thing like that - EVERY country is doing it to a lesser or greater extent on every other country.
We all know, or at least should know, that every email that we send is monitored (in most cases for keywords/phrases) and mobile phone can be monitored. The UK government has been listening to foreign mobile calls for at least 10 years to my knowledge - and probably longer.
As for Mr Google then the phase "Do as I say not as I do" comes to mind.

The only issue was that America broke the first rule of spying and got caught
Mobile phone monitoring is worse than just messages ... if you carry one with you then you basically carrying a location tracker ... a few years ago sci-fi suggested that people would be implanted with tracking chips so that the state could monitor ... who needs such things, the mobile phone does all that and more ... and yet, despite the outrage, we carry them willingly.
