Re: Just wondering
I'm glad you asked that gfw because it had crossed my mind if any expense were involved to maintain it and if David might be out of pocket.
If that were the case then I would be more than willing to contribute as I'm sure others would, except possibly our Yorkshire friend

Re: Just wondering
Good question. Last time I looked, domain names and hosting cost hard-earned drinking vouchers and David should not be allowed to be out of pocket for this magnificent replacement, which I hope is a permanent feature, not a temporary one.

No particular costs (other than time - good job it's winter and no gardening to do!!)
Domain names are only £5 a year and I already have the hosting account for other purposes. All the software is Open Source so no cost there.

It depends on what software they are using - if it is commercial, such a vbulletin, then you can be looking in the region of £200 per version and good reliable UK hosting can be anything up to £20 per month.JOHNTHED0G wrote:So why do some require sponsors?

Re: Just wondering
I asked for two reasons 1. Brad was asking for a sponsor for CN & 2.. another group I was on ages ago used to ask for donations towards running costs.

Your question, and that of the OP, has been answered by the site administrator. Other sites and how they are run is nothing to do with this site; ask your query on those sites.

Asking for an answer/asking for a reason.................... not much difference is there?

It is a totally different ball game when you have bespoke software running within a corporate infrastructure ... that would be like saying to someone 'I believe you know how to drive a car so you could you land this 747 for me please'.towny44 wrote:Then how come P&O's costly IT dept made such a pigs breakfast of their forum.

Asking a question is different to explaining the reason for asking a question, one requires an answer the other is a statement.
