No doubt you are right Ken I think I was getting mixed up with the McAfee quick clean which gets rid of unnecessary things which I'm told slow up a computer.Kendhni wrote:You only need to defragment if using a disk based hard drive .. and it should be done every few months or so.
If you are using a solid state drive (SSD) you do not need to defragment (arguably you should ensure SSDs do not get defragmented since it can 'wear them out' more quickly).

Re: Do you back up your computer regularily?
Using the Cloud for storage has been mentioned on a few threads, I have 5GB free with the IPad which I use.
What I am looking for, is a Cloud Storage enabling me to store all my computer files, such as photo's, music , etc. At least 200GB, which is secure and does not cost me the earth each month.
What cloud systems are others using and relevant costs. Thought I had found the answer with Mozy, read a report which unlimited download for £3:50 per month, then realised the report was written in 2009, now their charges are geared to the amount of storage used, and for 200GB would cost a fortune each month.

Delboy you might be best at looking to split the information a bit. For basic backup you can get 50Gb free from Mega (you could sign yourself and the good lady up) - however i am not sure about their security arrangements. Just use it as a dump for music etc.
Copy.com will give you 15Gb free but there are ways to get more free. I can give you a link that will ensure you get 20Gb to start with and then if you sign up the good lady she will 20Gb and you will get a further 5Gb. I also believe copy.com is quite cheap for bought storage.
For photos, could you not use Flickr (not sure what they offer)?

Not sure that I would "store" anything on a cloud - backup copies are fine.
Personally I would not trust any cloud with sensitive, unencrypted data as once it is on a cloud server it is, theoretically, accessible by hackers (and security services) and I suspect that it will not be long before they turn their attention to such areas.

I also prefer not to have my data in a ' cloud ' .... what happens when it rains and everything is lost ?

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

It's also worth checking the viability of your backup data from time to time - one of my external HDDs has just died.
