Once is unfortunate, twice is just stupid!

Unread post by Mrs007 »

Sorry to all of the forum chums for the edited PM reply I'm posting to all in lieu of individual PMs!

"Now how to answer your question? The feet and legs are fully healed and I returned to work on the 19th December and after a year off the shop-floor, so to speak (on administrative duties prior to the GE from the broken arm), I was just getting into the swing of things. However, whilst you sent me this PM this morning, I was sitting in our A&E with my Ward Manager, having just tripped face first on two computer wires dangling on the floor hidden behind the long bedside curtains, whilst on ward rounds with one of our Consultants and his team. To say this was deja vu would be a definite understatement! All of the doctors helped me up after examining that the blood on the floor from my teeth was not from a head injury, so mortifying but very kind of them all. It looked to all intent and purposes that I may have dislocated my right shoulder but after x-raying it they discovered the head of the Humerus (the ball of the ball and socket) was fractured plus a floating piece of bone. To add insult to injury I have to wait 10 days before they can rule out a fractured Scaphoid bone in my left wrist. Unfortunately they cannot put a cast on the shoulder site only a collar and cuff support, I'll know on Wednesday whether the Orthopaedic Consultant thinks I need an operation to pin the fractures.

Presently I am in a total sense of disbelief that an accident like this has happened again, my annus horribilis is still ongoing.

I'm sure by the time that you have read this, you will be regretting having ever asked the question.

I think I may just pop a post on the forum, as it would take forever to send individual PM's to all of my friends on here, as I'm currently posting with one finger. " :o

So to all the forum chums, duly posted.

Oh Dot!!! What on earth have you been up to now? I literally cannot believe you've injured yourself again (and this is from a fellow clumsy!).

I hope you're not in too much pain and your daughter isn't saying 'told you so' after her sledging accident.

Take care

Debs xx

Hidden trip hazard? HSE should go nuts over that one.

I am so sorry to hear this, and wish you a speedy recovery.

OMG Dot, I cannot believe it, you are a nightmare without me around to look after you (and that lovely hubbie of yours). Look after you and post when you can, even short messages with one finger are better than none, as we all want to know you are OK. Steve sends his love. :P :)

Dear, oh dear, 007. If it's not one thing, it's another. What are we going to do with you? So sorry to hear about yet another mishap.

Ooh Dot, not again ... I think you're beating Debbie by a long way for being the most accident prone :(

At least you can now pop on here to while away the time, one finger posting ;)

Thanks to all for your very kind replies, they've certainly cheered me up!

Apologies for the 'round robin' nature of the post and Jenni and Wina I will carry on posting, albeit like a tortoise.

Billy it's so lovely that you're here, sorry you've been so unwell yourself, love to you too but as Meg said no hugs yet. :D

Debs does this mean I'm a fully fledged member of the Clumsy Club like you and HK, or am I still an honorary status? ;)

Dear Dot

I've just finished responding as a PM and see that you've now posted over here. I don't regret asking how you were at all, as now everyone knows what happened and can offer their sympathy and support ... I just hope I wasn't the jinx!

As others have said, at least with this fab new forum you won't be short of reading material to keep you occupied.

BTW - it sounds to me as if you really need another holiday ;)

Oh I am so sorry this has happened to you. I was afraid towards the end of last year I was going to do the same thing. I broke my ankle skidding down two steps outside our back door in 2009 and had the ankle in plaster for two months. Then last Summer I was coming out of the bank going towards the traffic lights, thought I would cross before the lights as there was nothing coming, changed my mind, swivelled round, lost my balance and went headlong onto the pavement - so stupid. Luckily all was fine, someone helped me up and no damage done.

Then we were in Corfu on our Oceana cruise last October and I was getting off one of the tour buses. Now I am so careful about anything involving steps after my ankle incident. I look down when going downstairs and always hold onto the bannister rail. I was actually thinking as I went down the steps to get off the coach that I must be careful. I'm not sure what happened maybe my sandal got caught on one of the steps - those steps on coaches are incredibly steep - and I fell out of the coach onto the flower bed and really banged my knee. Again I was very lucky and apart from a black and blue knee I was ok. Visions of ending up in a Greek hospital flashed before my eyes. Two lovely people helped me up - the tour guide (not P&O) came up had a look and went away. This was at the terminal in Corfu at the end of the tour. All the rest of that day I kept thanking my lucky stars that it wasn't serious. The Consultant I had when I broke my ankle said more people injured themselves (some killed) falling down steps inside the house than by any other house injury. He said to always hold onto the bannister and never try going downstairs carrying something in both hands - if you trip you have no way of holding on.

We have a cruise coming up in the Caribbean so I intend being ultra careful. So if anyone happens to be on the same cruise and they see a woman going downstairs very slowly step by step and holding on carefully it will be me!

It's Mori (short for Moriarty), who sadly died a year or so ago. He was a stray who adopted us but we only had him a few months when he developed an open sore on his face which proved to be cancerous. He was a really lovely chap and I still miss him
