Hi Alan,

It's a really great place - we have a habit of walking around and photographing ordinary everyday life - it's colourful and interesting, you'll have a wonderful time.

If your outing includes a visit to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, try and walk over to the market of Our Lady of Africa (rough translation), it's really bustling and full of colour and loads of interest.

Em :relaxed:

Tanks, Em, I'll try to remember that!

I do not like the smell of Kerosene, especially while I am sitting on an aircraft for 30 minutes while waiting for a "stand" to be vacated by another aircraft. It smells worse at 10.00pm as it was last night at Heathrow.
We had a lovely time in Madeira though.
That Avtar is one of the worst things for your health Jay. The more volatile the compound the easier it is to be absorbed. Dont breathe deeply.

Tut! Tut! I am becoming a bloomin' hypochondriac.

Ummm...... Em.........

Santa Cruz is in Tenerife, not Madeira.

But there is a very interesting Fish Market in Funchal, Alan which is well worth a visit. At the moment the Harbour is undergoing very extensive building works and it is not looking pretty. This follows the severe flood of a couple of years ago. New flood relief spills a park and marina are being constructed. I did not see a date for completion. I am sure it will be wonderful in the end.

Oh good grief - it's talking about 'smells' which has prompted this query!

Remember what I nightmare I was when I first started cruising and had loads of questions?

Well here we go again ...... if you are onboard and change a baby's nappy, what do you do with it?

I realise that unused nappies can easily be used to put over heads to prevent sunburn (sort of goes with the tatty white vest and beer can I suppose), I realise that they are also useful for placing over snoring sunbathers etc - but what oh what is the procedure for disposing of the blasted things when diddums darling has used one?

Hi Em,

You deposit it into a scented bag and drop it in the toilet waste bin...then run to your balcony to get some fresh air....messy old business...but you’ll get used to it

Hi Jay,

Apologies - I got it wrong and thought that the outing in question was a cruise ...... which might have included S C as it was on the Madeira etc outing we did.

However, I didn't maybe get it so wrong - I did use the word 'if' in my post.

We had some really great walks on that cruise, and (reverting back to smells ), island by island we had some different sights, sounds and smells. The market I mentioned had a glorious display of flowers for sale, and the vibrant colours and heavy perfumes of some of the flowers was quite an experience; and this was closely coupled to the bakery smells emanating from the bakery shop/stall.

Keith - did you mention perfumed waste bags ....... where do those come from?

What sort of raspberry? Certain types can also contain polycyclic hydrocarbons and non combustible solids. ;)

The best smells are clean baby, fresh coriander my doggie. The worst smells are fish sauce, dog poo and foot odour.

Hi HK,

When we are out and about on long walks, I always carry a spray can of Scholl stuff - it takes away soreness and aches and leaves feet smelling pretty too.

It is also indispensable for long evenings with loads of dancing in silly shoes.

Boris, in years to come you may well have the delightful experience of entering one of those huge bouncy soft play areas. The smell of feet overwhelms you as soon as you walk in and not even a vat of Scholl footspray will stop you heaving :D

Hi Em,

The only reason I know about “perfumed baby nappies bags” is that I use them as posh poo bags for my posh mutt.

This however can cause some misunderstanding... like the time I was in the baby isle of Tesco’s...this lady approached me and asked how old mine was......without hesitation I replied...”she’s eight yet still loves a bowl of milk”
