What sound?

Unread post by Admiral of the Humber »

Following on from the Keefy Onelife thread....

What are your favourite sounds?

Last night we had a bonfire party and the fizzes and bangs of the fireworks and the accompanying oohs and aahs of the audience made me smile as they always do. This morning as I was tidying up the wreckage I did so to the sound of Sunday morning church bells, another of my favourite sounds. Other favourites are the sound of Miss AOTH's laugh and the roar of the crowd at the KC stadium.

What are yours?

Thanks for the acknowledgement Robbie :)

Well, I like the sound of the kettle boiling...especially when my wife is making the tea.

There are so many sounds that I like that I can see myself paying several visits to this thread. I love to hear the sound of rain pitter-pattering on our caravan roof...especially when we are tucked up in bed.

Regards

The sound of Julies voice first thing in the morning or on the phone when I am working away ... soppy I know.
The sound of a two stroke racing engine
The sound of a cruise ship (that continuous background hum from the aircon)
Th sound of a Fender or Gibson lead guitar

My soppiest sound is the sound of my two cats purring and miaowing at me when I come home from work.
I know they just want feeding but it cheers me up!

Just been for a walk along the beach, sound of the waves against the pebbles is somehow very calming.

Btw its a crystal clear day. I could see from Beachy Head to the Isle of Wight - that's 30 miles in each direction!

Not so much now but when I was a kid I loved the sound of Scottish accents especially when spoken softly.

I also love the sound of the first Cuckoo.

The sound of the log fire crackling.
The sound of waves crashing on the shore.
The sound of a tennis ball hitting the racket head.
The sound of tap shoes tapping.

And many more I expect, that I can't think of just now.

I have to agree about the sound of champagne - the sound of the cork followed by the rich creamy frothy pouring sound.

Then I suppose it has to be the 'sigh of a Merlin' nothing quite like the sound of a Spitfire - and then the sound of a perfectly hit drive.

All of these are equal ranking for me.

Dear Tinker,

Your post and the new edition of "Our World" brought back to mind one of the best days I've ever had on a P&O cruise holiday. We were on Oriana in 2010 and were lucky enough to visit Kotor.

Highlight one was the sail in which was unlike anything else I've ever experienced; it was like visiting the Norwegian fjords but warmer and with a flavour of the iron curtain and a Dracula movie.

Highlight two came when my brother in law and I climbed the city walls to St. John Castle. The sense of achievement in getting to the top was intense and the views, not just of the town but the surrounding mountains, the lake and the beautiful Oriana were positively stunning.

Highlight three was the sail out. Tradition dictates that local sailors departing Kotor should circumnavigate the two small islands of Sveti Dorde and Gospa od Skrpijela (thanks to "Our World" for the spelling!). This usually applies to fishing boats and such small craft, but Captain Ian Hutley did it with Oriana. It took about twenty minutes in almost total silence, until the bells from the church on one of the islands started to toll followed by the ships horn..definitely a goosebumps / shiver down the spine moment.

The roar of the crowd when your team scores a goal or a try.

Being out walking when there is deep snow about and you get that soft, gentle silence broken only by muffled voices from afar.

The sound of bacon sizzling in the pan.

Aeroplanes taking off.

'You've just won x thousand pounds'. Never heard that one but I feel sure I would enjoy it!!
I was taught to be cautious

Music, any sort really but love the sound of children singing Christmas carols , the choir from my local kings college at Christmas is amazing. The sounds of waves breaking on a beach, or the quiet watery sounds as you cruise in the fjords. My grandchildren laughing, birdsong early in the morning, when everywhere is otherwise silent, and the distant sound of the church bells.
