Boris Island

Story here
Another pie-in-the-sky idea or a genuine alternative to expansion at Heathrow? I know the idea has been about for decades now.

Stupid idea. If anybody wants to get there they've got London in the way.

Did you see that other plan in the paper this week? Make Heathrow's 2 runways into 4 runways by lengthening them very slightly, and making each a landing and take off runway with a turn-around in the middle. You need to see the diagram, as I can't explain it here!!!!
A group of engineers have put that one forward.

Boris Island.... I would need to fly there from Glouester Airport to make it viable for me!! and that will never happen.

It's bad enough making the regular trek to LHR from S.W. Wales, no way would we contemplate going as far as the Thames Estuary, so that would impact on our holiday plans considerably.

Better get all our nice hols in now then, before they close LHR.

The dual mode is possible, but it all hinges on the 'nimbys'. What LHR desperately needs is two more runways, and there is space there for it. Currently the UK is missing out on business which is going to Hamburg, Frankfurt and Paris.

The Thames Estuary plan - I can't see it happening.

I dont care if I never set foot inside another airport anywhere. I had enough of that lark when I was in 'real work'. That's the attraction of cruising from Southampton for me, 40 mins down the road and we are there.

Round here, the Nimbys go into a frenzy every time Boris Island is mentioned.

I can't ever see it happening, although it'd be most convenient for us!

Seems like a better plan than expanding Heathrow for ever and ever ... but where would the money come from even if it was a good idea ?

It would be cheaper to build a rail link to RAF Lyneham
