This is about Amazon in the UK but I expect it's world wide

Do you use Amazon?

Do you have a "Wish List"?

If you do have one do you realise that it can be read by anyone in the world who knows
either your email address or who can find you by your name and town of residence?

You can control this but the default setting is "public" which means anyone can see it.

You can see this from the "Wish List" item on the menu bar.
I only learned this myself yesterday and it came as a surprise

Apparently the thinking is anyone can buy you something you want.

I shall shortly be adding a Ferrari GTO to my wish list please feel free to buy it for me

You do have to Create one in the first instance so nothing to worry about ... I would have thought.

If you place an item on your wishlist as hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people do (and as I did years ago as an aide memoire for price checking)
then as you are not aware that anyone can view it I think it is indeed something to worry about.

I was aware of this ... and Amazon are not alone. What the evidence of this marketing trick shows is that we are more alike than we like to think and by looking at other peoples public wish lists you can get ideas about something else that may interest you ... especially books. The other thing is that Julie can see my wish list and get ideas for me for Christmas ... however I will have to make do with a Yugo since I can't spell Ferrari.

I was alerted to ' Wish Lists ' years ago, I looked into them a little deeper when I got a phone call from a Telesales person trying to sell me a P&O cruise shortly after I had added an Asian World Cruise Segment onto their site in spite of us requesting no contact via phone calls ... a facility I therefore no longer use.

I don't use the wish list, I use 'save for later'

OH has an enormous list of books he'd like. I found the whole lot on amazon and saved for later, and each birthday and Christmas I buy a few.

price changes are alerted so it works a treat

For some reason my Amazon wish list of a tall young fit leggy blonde whose father owns a brewery got rejected.

And they have the brass neck to talk about customer satisfaction
