Re: Your favourite confectionery
Hi Jo
Thank you for your welcome.
It was good to see the family again but it certainly wasn't restful - I'm now back in the office for a much-needed break! It hasn't helped that I've since gone down with a bad cold and I'm now under investigation for high blood pressure.
Happy days!!

Re: Your favourite confectionery
Who remembers Fry's 'Tiffin'? I used to have 6d a day pocket money and I used to buy one on Bletchley station on my way home from school. Delicious. Then stand close to the edge of the platform as the Mid Day Scot thundered through pulled by a Stainier Pacific, little knowing that within 5 years I would be travelling on it myself.
No wonder I was a bit like Billy Bunter in those days. I cant even start on chocolate these days, it is so addictive.

Much as I love chocolate especially with nuts in it I like sweeties - love the pick and mix in the cinema where you can try so many different sweets and I particularly like jelly beans and liquorice allsorts and those really really sour dummies - I once bought a big box of them and my mouth was like sandpaper from eating them - my mouth is watering now at the thought of them
Caramels and toffees are a big no no as I've broken fillings on them and my dentist was not amused

Re: Your favourite confectionery
I seldom eat sweets and chocolate these days - it was extremely hard going to start with, but I got used to doing without and have managed to keep them to an absolute minimum in the last few months.
However, when tempted. I do enjoy Green and Black's chocolate, both the milk and plain - but not the white which is just too sickly. And very occasionally I can be forced to eat Reece's Peanut ButterCups - usually when going through an airport, but not often and not many as they are LOADED with calories!

Re: Your favourite confectionery
Are far as sweets are concerned I like pineapple chunks and also clove sweets. I am also partial to nuts - especially salted peanuts and various flavoured varieties of macadamia nuts.
For chocolate - yes I can remember Tiffin, and also there used to be Frys Five Boys and the peppermint chocolate bar also used to come in five fruit flavours, but I haven't seen that for years. Nowadays if it's going to be chocolate in the house at this time of year it's a close call between Hotel Chocolat products, Charbonnel & Walker etc - but I don't bother with snacks and nibbles all over the place just because it's December muchly.
I can find so much to enjoy all year round I don't save it up just for one month.

Re: Your favourite confectionery
Nobody's mentioned Bounty bars. If I'm in Aldi Romeo bars are just as good. I love coconut anyway so Bounty is right up my street.
Hotel Chocolat is too much of a temptation for me. The girls in Southampton must see me coming as I am always tempted in by a smile and a free sample. They must know I will buy umpteen pounds worth to take on the cruise with me. Maybe it's just as well they don't have an outlet anywhere near.

Re: Your favourite confectionery
Give them a try Jan. I can't tell the difference (maybe because they don't last long enough for comparison). Aldi's Moser Roth chocolate is very nice especially the chilli chocolate.
"And your specialist subject Mr Foxy?"

How do you stay so slim? We both suffer purgatory to keep our weight down; Bounty bars? I wish!oldbluefox wrote:Nobody's mentioned Bounty bars. If I'm in Aldi Romeo bars are just as good. I love coconut anyway so Bounty is right up my street.

My OH has me on a Tenko diet for much of the time. I suffer the purgatory of a diet in order to enjoy these little sins and my cruises. Bounty bars? Sometimes when I'm really desperate I suck them to make them last longer.

Re: Your favourite confectionery
Each week I buy Liquorice ( the long sticks and Catherine wheels ) plus pontefract cakes. I like Bounty bars both plain and milk and Peppermint Aero.
I am not over keen on sweet things although I do like chocolate caramels and my favourite Thorntons treacle toffee.

As a kiddywinks I always bought my Mum a Frys Peppermint bar and wrapped it a big box with a hand painted holly and tinsel label label for her Christmas treat
I think that I got more pleasure out of my endeavours than she did

No you didn't Graham, whatever you thought; I bet your Mum was as chuffed with that, as anything she ever had. I know I would have been.gfwgfw wrote:As a kiddywinks I always bought my Mum a Frys Peppermint bar and wrapped it a big box with a hand painted holly and tinsel label label for her Christmas treat
