Our tree goes up on 01 Dec annually - so that's this Sunday. I've done most of the gift shopping, I'll get the cards done this week because I have a feeling that between now and mid December is going to be hectic, and I don't know what's in store for me after that (at the moment).

TREE's..........two tree or more family hey, we are posh.

We'll have a bit of laurel bush shoved in a old garden pot decorated with some cobwebs and nail clippings. No expense spared in OUR house. That's if I can get into the spirit (whisky normally) and can be bothered

Call me Scrooge if you like - I know someone will - but our tree never goes up until a couple of weeks before Christmas Day. We love Christmas but aren't keen on it taking over the whole of December, or these days half of November too. :?

I used to go for a different colour scheme every year, but not any more - and it's just one tree nowadays. It's elegant, tasteful, not over done ....... less is more methinks.

Our tree never used to go up until Christmas Eve. We told the children the fairies had been overnight. They loved it and, as our son grew older, he kept up the pretence for his youngest sister.

We'd also put out a glass of whisky (which I used to drink in those days, long since stopped) for Santa, and a carrot and some porridge oats for the reindeer. After the kids had gone to bed, I'd bite the end off the carrot and drop it on the carpet and sprinkle a few oats as well. A week after Christmas (as the tree was coming down), the kids had forgotten what presents they'd received but they'd remember that Santa's naughty reindeer had made a mess on the carpet!

Nowadays, because of time restraints, the tree goes up a few days earlier but still comes down at New Year.

Each to their own.... I think overdone trees look brilliant...!!!
They look luxurious and sumptuous...full of baubles, sparkles, lights, Christmas crackers and chocolate.
My main tree is red gold and green..as the above.
Hall tree, is gold and sliver.
Back room is anything goes and all my kids/grandkids stuff since they were young.
Kitchen tree is shabby chic,
Porch tree is red and gold.
The kids tree in the yard is multicoloured!!!!

All in the best possible taste of course :D

Currently I have a 1 foot Christmas tree...maybe it's time to get a bigger one, although it didn't take long to decorate! I love Christmas decorations but am very restricted on space.
As for the fairy lights that no matter how neatly you pack them, they always magically get tangled during the year. Last year I shoved them in the cupboard as they were, not even in a box...and they came out perfectly with no tangles!

Our sitting room tree is decorated in cream/ white and shades of purple/lilac. The hall tree, was gold and cream, but in our new home we don't really have somewhere suitable to put it in the hall, so it will decorate the conservatory. We also have a small - about 2' - tree that used to live in the kitchen/ family room, decorated in gold, but that will now go in the dining room on a side table.

In the front garden, the large tree will be festooned with soft white as will the potted Christmas tree beside the front door. I may, or may not, get a potted tree for the deck in the back garden! That will also have soft white lights.

We only moved in on December 18th last year and noticed in our cul de sac, almost everyone decorated their front garden trees and it looked wonderful.

Sue - I think your home must be fabulous over the festive period.

Sue, do you have real trees ? If so how do you keep them alive for the whole of December ? I would love to put mine up ( only two ) a bit earlier but they don't last .we usually have Nordman trees which are pretty good but still daren't risk putting them up until about the second weekend of December.

The indoor trees are not real. Used to have real ones before the kids and grandkids came along. The yard one is a pot grown tree, which we but new every year, hoping it will stay alive, but they don't !!!

We have an artificial tree. It's so realistic that the needles keep falling off.

We have always had a real tree - about 6ft 6ins usually. Last year we were not at home for Christmas and had an artifical one where we were. It was large and looked lovely but it just wasn't the same. No Christmas tree smell! At home I had to have some sort of tree so got a small real one and had it on a table. Both my daughters said it was horrible! They have grown up (both in their 30s now) always having a large, real tree and just couldn't get used to seeing this small offering. This year we are at home so the large tree - well as large as I can persuade my husband to buy - will be back.

Does anyone have the argument that we usually have? Not about the size or which tree we pick - my husband wants the first one we look at - but when we get it home and get ready to put it in its stand. It stays in a bucket of water outside until around the 16th December, after having an inch sawn off the trunk when we buy it. Then when it's time to bring it in my husband always says that we need to take some of the bottom branches off in order for it to stand securely in the stand, this after chopping another inch off the trunk so the tree can absorb more water. He always wants to take off more lower branches than I think necessary - if you take off too many you loose the bushiness (is that a word?) of the tree. I'm not sure what type of tree to get this year. I still love the real Christmas smell of a Norwegian Spruce but the needles so tend to fall more easily, the Nordman lasts much longer but it just doesn't have that smell. What do other people choose?

Well, the trees are up, the house is dressed inside and out and 'm a happy bunny. I just have to get a new garland for the mantle shelf, as the one I normally use looks a little worse for wear. Oooh I love to see all the lights twinkling
