Organ transplants

Unread post by Onelife »

Would you be willing to donate your pets Organs for transplant?

I didn’t catch all of the report but it was asking if you would be willing to carry a Dog donor card?

I can’t see that there is much difference between human donor cards and those for your pets...however; I’m not convinced most pet owners would like to think of their pets being used this way?

Would you?

We dont have any pets. I long ago decided that no one would want my ancient bit transplanted into their bodies.

We don't have any pets but if we had I would probably say no because I think there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there and it would be 'organs to order'

I have nothing against organ donation in fact I've carried a card for over 30 years

I think it's a great idea and that in my opinion people should carry a card to opt out and as long as their relatives know what their wishes and intentions are there would be no problems in the event that their organs may be needed

Assuming the same criteria as used for humans applied then I would have no problem with it ... the limitations would be that I would not expect a pet to donate one kidney say while expecting to live on and secondly i would not get an animal put down to provide an organ.

At the minute they do recycle some technology for pets e.g. pacemakers.

as an owner of 3 dogs

I am happy to donate my organs, but not my pets ,untill it is as heavily regulated as human transplants
my reasoning is this, I am not having my pets harvested to go to some quack medicine in China, or the far east, where they believe that a tigers scrotum or a panda's willy makes you live for ever
I strongly object to countries harvesting any animal to provide fake or voodoo based medicines

Whilst I am still alive and kicking then the answer is 99% no, definitely not.

After I have died the answer would be - if absolutely necessary for a certain specific list of people; otherwise 100% no.

We don't have any pets.

I'd be worried I might start licking my backside. And I don't think the good lady would appreciate me cocking me leg up against the curtains :)

I wasn't aware that you could specify who your donated organs went to

Whooops-a-mundo ....... I've got it wrong again. Ok, so this is specifically for pets; well I don't have any pets at the moment (because it hurt too much when my 'boys' died).

When I have a pet I love it to bits, and do my very best for it. That alone would make me want to shy away from donating any organs from a pet.

Apologies for having got my knickers in a knot and answering the thread incorrectly. Stupid me.

Hi HK,

Trust you are well - to answer your question (which I think can have top marks and extra Santa choccies for being nicely silly) is no - it's nothing to do with Cunard passengers, and nothing to do with royalty either.

So it's purely and simply a list of people who I see as being special - and I would do whatever I could to help those people within the realms of feasibility and sensibility.

After further consideration I don’t think organ transplantation/donation is something I would consider for my pet. Unlike human transplantation the animal wouldn’t have the ability to communicate during or after the transplant how it was feeling. If transplantation follows the same path as human transplantation then animals would have to spend the rest of their lives on anti rejection drugs without the ability of expressing how the drugs are affecting them.

Hi Stephen,

Bless you - you made me laugh! I've had my brains in the tea-strainer doing some accounts but I've just literally got it sorted - and so your lovely joke above was extremely well timed. (Still have the other problem though).

So, I thought that the woman entering the room was carrying a basket of eggs - and what's Ronnie Barker doing wearing my hat?

Em
