Nelson Mandela Has Died

Unread post by Delboy »

May he rest in peace

South Africa's first black president and anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela has died, South Africa's president says.

Mr Mandela, 95, led South Africa's transition from white-minority rule in the 1990s, after 27 years in prison.

He had been receiving intense home-based medical care for a lung infection after three months in hospital.

In a statement on South African national TV, Mr Zuma said Mr Mandela had "departed" and was at peace.

He opened the world’s eyes to what it is to be a decent human being.

An amazing, courageous man who will be remembered for his dignity in adversity and his humility that he showed to one and all. A truly remarkable man to forgive and to do as much as he has done since leaving Robin Island after being imprisoned for 27 years. He will be mourned greatly, not just in South Africa but throughout the world.

RIP Nelson Mandela

I don't think that with his health the way it was this has come as any surprise - in fact it is probably mor of a surprise that he has lasted this long.

He is a man who will go down in history as one of the very few "great people" - of which there are very few.

We have a very close family member who actually met and talked with him and they said that he was a truly inspirational and charismatic man.

Let's hope there are not any skeletons in the cupboard and that it doesn't turn into a JS further down the line.

I hadn't realised that he was the son of a Tribal Chief, perhaps this is the root(s) of his dignity.

A wonderful and forgiving man, such a comparison to the small minded Politicians in this and other Western Countries. Time to show huge respect and even to celebrate his truly worthwhile life.

RIP Mr Mandela

I think he was a Great Human Being. Never arrogant, always charming. A true hero. What he achieved seemed impossible, but he did it nevertheless. RIP
