What's that noise?

Unread post by Onelife »

Went to bed at 11.30 woke at 2.30 and haven’t been to sleep since.

Just been out to see what the noise is... still not sure but it’s coming from outside a house a couple of doors away. It sounds like a large generator but there doesn’t seem to be anyone about to ask... I’m at a loss as to what has happened...Can’t be the water mains as I’ve had several cups of tea.

A box of Keefy chocolates for the first person who comes up with the reason for the racket?

Regards

Keefy... feeling very, very :tired:

How very frustrating for you, Keith. Presumably it's in their back garden so you can't see the source of the noise from the road?

Hi Alan,

It’s actually in their front garden and now it’s got lighter I can see they have a tent covering what I presume is a generator of some description...I’ll give it an hour or so then go and do my nosey, concerned neighbour call.

Regards

Keith

Sounds like a crime scene to me. Perhaps someone has punctured the inflatable Santa and kidnapped one of his elf's ;)

Stephen might not be far from the truth - it could be a generator/air blower thingy for one or more inflatable Christmas decorations.

It would seem that I’m not the only one to have had major electricity problems...It was in fact a large electricity generator brought in to supply power to the house due a major underground fault. It’s still blaring away and as yet no electricity engineers on site.

Just to rub salt into my already sleepy eyes my wife got up this morning and said she’d slept well after I’d got out of bed...

A colleague of mine had a similar incident two weeks ago only to find that gypsies had set up on land at the end of his garden.

A fortnight on and they are still there, as is the generator.

They are now going through the 'process'

Crickey, one visit from me to the vicinity of OL Towers and things start to to wrong. I blame all those Christmas lights in your lovely village.

Onelife

You realise it's Friday the 13th today.

First you find out there is a generator blaring out in the neighbours garden, probably belonging to Murphy and Co, and supplying fifty caravans just up the road who have pitched up for Christmas and the New Year.............most probably longer. And then you wife basically tells you she sleeps better when your not in the bed.

Just not your day mate.

Poor you. Where we live there is no gas supply so we rely on electricity. We have oil heating but without electricity, we have no central heating and no hot water. We have thought about getting a small generator but I didn't realise they were so noisy. I hope you have a better night's sleep tonight. :)

Thanks Buddy...Now you’ve got me really worried...I thought the sleeping bag was a Christmas present for our daughter  :problem:

And your right it ain't my day, I fell asleep while watching racing at Cheltenham

Poor Onelife! It could be worse, your wife might have woken with a soiled nightie and Patrick could have broken a leg!

Hi emjay,

I would have though a generator would have been essential under your circumstances  ?...The one they are using was towed into place and stands about 3 metre‘s tall. I’m not sure, but I would have thought you should be able to get a generator that doesn’t give you ear ache? However, listen to it running before you buy it as you may prefer to get candles instead, especially if it makes as much noise as this one dose.

Btw it could be another uncomfortable night as it is still blaring out with not an engineer in sight.

Regards

Keith

Btw The "Invigilator" runs at Wolverhamopton tommorrow night I think it could run a big race...there goes another fiver

Hi Jonty...Please don’t feel bad about this but your post has just about pushed me over the edge...try not to read tomorrows papers...No flowers but a donation to the Onelife cruise fund would be appreciated

Thank you

So sorry, never a borrower or a lender be, let alone a giver, have to save for my next bar bill.

The aim was to let you know your glass is half full and to see positives where negatives appear on the horizon. With my limited experience of this forum, you seem to be a member that would appreciate that sentiment. Despite your woes I hope you have a very happy Christmas and a PROSPEROUS 2014 enabling all your cruising dreams to come true.

Hi Jonty,

Thank you for your kind and motivational words. I’m feeling so much better today having had a much better night. If I ever need someone to fill my glass back up I’ll know who to call :)

Repairs are well under way as it looks like the A team or should that be the E (Electricity) team has descended on our lovely village

No Keith I knew exactly what you meant. I realised you were thinking of Babs. If I knew how I would have placed a bet myself.
BTW I had a disturbed night last night, it started blowing a hoolie in the early hours and all I could hear was crash, bang, wallop. My OH had to go out this morning and check the house. He had to pin Rudolph down on the lawn as he was just about to fly off. There has been no let up all day and I'll be surprised if Rudolph is still here in the morning. :)

I think those winds you’ve experienced have made their way up our way as it’s really windy here... no rain though.

Really stupid thought - but you say it is a generator, so I wonder if there has been a nasty horrid incident (such as a big leak or a flood) and they now have to use a generator to power those big noisy drying machines?

Hi Em,

The problem has now been resolved; it was in fact a main electrical break down which required the road digging up. I’ve bunged the engineers a pony to take the generator up to Hull and plonk it outside DK’s house.

Hope you have a pleasant and restful evening DarkestOne

Kind regards Em
