I've had two BMWs but I drive a Merc now. It's an old man's carDark Knight wrote:frank
It is of course a generalisation. apart from the BMW drivers, they are muppets
I have the option of a Merc next go round plus all the above
I could happily drive a Merc but will never ever be seen in a BMW

why?
the new ones look pretty good, but they don't get great write up's in the motoring press?

The deal breaker was the lack of a proper spare wheel. There's no way that I'm going to drive round Europe on a set of rubber bands. One puncture and you're stuck for a week or so, and it's even worse with a caravan on the back. Shame, BMWs are a great car to drive, the Merc is a very good piece of engineering but it's so bland.Dark Knight wrote:QB

Well I'm an old man! I love my Merc, best car I ever had by a country mile. Service is pretty good too, and not as expensive as Honda service in my experience. Now 4 years old from new, and fabulously comfortable on a long journey.....now where's my commission?

I love my Merc - comfortable for cruising and when you want power there it goes like the proverbial off a shovel. It's economical to run and easy to drive. My only gripe, because the back seats don't fold down, it's useless for going to the tip or carrying anything over 5ft long from B&Q. I suppose if you drive a Merc these are things you don't tend to be doing but just occasionally needs must.

I've got the E350 estate which was useful for my business. You could get a single bed in the back. The company has now got a Vito dualliner van with the same V6 3 litre diesel engine and a 5-speed box as my car.oldbluefox wrote:I love my Merc - comfortable for cruising and when you want power there it goes like the proverbial off a shovel.
