Where is the list of contacts at the moment? If you sign up to a Google account then they can all be merged from 'the cloud' but you would have to do this on the source device first.

Re: know how?
Have you tried Googling the question? Google usually comes up with an answer. I recently synced all my contacts onto my ipod, courtesy of my Google friends.
I was taught to be cautious

ok, what email client are you using on your Vista thingy? (sorry, email client means what email program are you using, Outlook Express for example)Onelife wrote:Quizzical Bob wrote:Where is the list of contacts at the moment? Unless you are using a web based mail service such as hotmail, gmail etc AND you have a compatible app on your Samsung then it will probably mean that you will have to enter them all again.

Re: know how?
For others the easiest way of doing this is to have a google gmail account and place all your contacts in there. Not only will they be available to you from any internet terminal (by lo0gging into gmail) they can also be automatically sync'd with any tablet or mobile device (by giving it your gmail credentials). You can add or amend contact details on any device (tablet, phone, PC) and they will be sync'd.
You can also do this with your favourites within your Chrome browser which means that when you log into your gmail account from any internet terminal anywhere in the world all yoour favourites will automatically appear.

The downside of this is that your data is being held on a Google server which means that not only is it a target for hackers (not as prevalent as Hotmail I admit) but it is also available for Google to do as they wish with it - and personally I would not trust Google with any more of my data than is necessary.Kendhni wrote:For others the easiest way of doing this is to have a google gmail account and place all your contacts in there. On that front, an interesting article heredavid63 wrote:The downside of this is that your data is being held on a Google server which means that not only is it a target for hackers (not as prevalent as Hotmail I admit) but it is also available for Google to do as they wish with it - and personally I would not trust Google with any more of my data than is necessary.Kendhni wrote:For others the easiest way of doing this is to have a google gmail account and place all your contacts in there. ... Dropbox, Google, and Amazon all say they will only dig into your files if someone tips them off to illegal or copyrighted material, or law enforcement comes knocking
... Microsoft (Skydrive) is known to scan its users' files, sometimes with disastrous results
... Apple reserves the right to scan your files stored in iCloud for illegal or malicious content
I was surprised to see Mega was one of the more secure (although I am growing quite fond of Cubby lately ... due to HIPAA compliance)

Re: know how?
It really is a foreign language isn't it! I'm still learning how to use my new iPad. My sister-in-law sorted out my email - don't know how she did it but it's now an app at the bottom of the main page - is it called in the dock? Now I press that and go straight into my email - which is ntl - well Virgin I suppose. There are still many things I need to know and when my daughter has five minutes I'll ask more questions but she needs to explain - slowly, well very slowly, and then show me very slowly!
One thing maybe someone can explain. If I am on an internet page - via Google - and there is a link to something which I click on to view, how do I get back to the original page without going out of the whole internet thing and having to go back into Google again? Don't know if this question makes any sense but it's the best way I can describe it. I think I can give an example - I was on this site and someone recommended something with a link which I clicked on to read. When I had finished how do I get back to this site? There wasn't a back button or anything so how is it done? You see what happens when those of us who didn't grow up in the computer generation gets their hands on the new technology!

Re: know how?
The back button is a thin blue arrow up in the top left of your screen. I assume that you're using Safari as your web browser and are on operating system IOS7 ?
Further to this, if instead of clicking on a link you let your finger rest on it then a box will pop up and you can select 'open in new tab' or some such. This will leave your present page open on an old tab and you can return to it later.

Ipad tip #2
For foreign characters let your finger rest on the key and the alternatives will appear. Slide your finger over to the one you want and then release.
