All this dieting is a load of rubbish. Take you 'Once a year', you'll starve yourself half to death, for what, to look like some god on your next cruise (it'll never happen), then when your on your cruise you'll stuff yourself silly. Where's the logic!

We all put on a few pounds over Christmas. Once you get back to your normal eating habit the weight will come back off.

Just eat a sensible balanced diet with a bit of exercise up to the pub and chippy and you should be fine

We all have our own way of dieting and eating happy and what suits one person does not suit another.

When I am dieting I do not eat any bread, potatoes pasta or rice, no great hardship for me as I can do without all of the above. I do eat loads of vegetables and fresh salads very little meat and cheese but lots of fish. No deserts other than fresh fruit and for breakfast low sugar muesli with skimmed milk and a boiled egg.

This works for me. I make weekends special by allowing myself a couple of glasses of wine if the week has gone well dieting wise.

Once not on a diet I introduce a small amount of good quality interesting bread or half a jacket potato.

My problem is that we cruise too often so in between cruises I am always on a diet.

I started my diet on 30 Jan but had a lapse over New Year with drinking champagne. I will weigh in on Sunday morning and hope I have not done too much damage with the New Year binge. I am hoping for a first week loss of 5lbs as it will be mainly excess fluids, which will leave 8lbs to lose over the following 3 weeks but I also have my birthday next Thursday so planning a quiet one this year.

Good luck everyone whichever way you decide to lose weight and eat healthy.

Sue

Hi Frank, and everyone else

Sorry for not getting back to you but I've had a really frustrating day, so much so that I'm just about to throw the Samsung tablet out of the window.

Regards

Keith

Frustration through lack of food, that's what that is.

I would say your probably showing the first signs of cold Turkey, but I don't want you dribbling all over my monitor

Oh dear I've just read all the replies. I'm really going to be no good at this dieting lark. I can't give up bread. :( I can't give up alcohol. :(
I will try my best not to eat any biscuits or cakes and as soon as the weather improves I'll do some more walking. I'm not starting yet so I'm afraid the coveted award for the best loser next week will not be me. :(

I've got too many Christmas goodies left over to make a serious start on this just yet. That said, I was quite restrained over the Christmas period.

I posted a reply but it was lost. Not very interesting any way. Just finished off a bottle of port and a bottle of red wine so probably didn't make any sense. Will try again tomorrow with the diet.

I can't start the diet until Monday as we have been invited out for a Christmas meal at my son's house on Saturday because we were away over Christmas and a friend has also invited us for a meal on Sunday. As it would be very rude to refuse the invites and I always enjoy a meal when someone else cooks it, then I felt it only polite to accept both the invitations. Life will return to normal on Monday and I will try to be good from then on. I hope to lose 5 - 8 lbs but this weather isn't helping as I hibernate when it is raining and, my goodness, hasn't it rained and rained.

Wina's advice is sensible, Keith - using a smaller plate does make you feel as if you are still eating a lot. Not eating a sensible amount also makes people bad tempered and you can't concentrate as well so Frank's advice is important. Good luck and chin up - or should that be chins up.

Well there we have it...13 stone 10lbs is my starting weight.

Todays menu.... bowl of cerials with Candia (just milk) We've been having this milk for some time now as it tastes much creamer than your normal semi- skimed milk and has less calories.

lunch...two Ryvita with cottage cheese with a sliced apple desert.

Dinner....two rashers of bacon (rindless) small dolop of mashed potato with tinned tomatoes.

Keep smiling

Hi Keefy,

I haven't worked out the calories of this menu, but I suspect it is way too low. If you don't eat enough calories surely the body goes into "starvation mode" whereby it actually retains fat? Also, denying yourself proper food to this extent is likely to increase cravings for higher calorie/fatty foods - with the possible binging later.

Just eat less fats than normal, less alcohol, smaller portion sizes, and more exercise, and the weight will come off.

Now, I just need to practise what I preach!

Got off to a good start this morning with a Cafe Rouge full English breakfast... :tired:

HI Romig,

I didn't think it worth mentioning the mid morning Mars bar and afternoon fruit cake as l didn't feel this would give the pinch-an-inchers the right impression

Todays menu is very much like yesterdays e.g cerials, Ryvita topped with cottage cheese, orange for lunch and a baked potato with chilli filling for dinner.

I did the same kind of diet three years ago and lost two stone...that being said l do appreciate what you are saying about getting the right balance

I think you have to tailor your diets to your own personal circumstances eg if you do physical work then it stands to reason you will require more grub to keep you going. I'm one of them lucky people who enjoys eating lots of fruit and veg which should be enough to stave off the hunger pains.

Regards

Keith

Boy, have you seen the sugar in those fillings ?

I seem to have lost 2lb in the past few days but I dare say it could have been more had I skipped the delayed Christmas Pud and extra thick Brandy Cream
