Re: Everything you need to know about immigration
I’m sure we will all have our own opinions as what the anticipated influx of EU immigrants will have on our Country. Having watched this program last night I’m more convinced than ever that our borders should be closed to all but those who can contribute something positive to our very overcrowded Island. As for all the other immigrants who wish to make better lives for themselves the clear message should be “our doors are now closed” It’s alright to say these immigrants contribute to the economy, which is probably true but as is being demonstrated by our Governments “scurrying around trying to implement new immigration policies” we are ill-equipped to cope with this influx. I haven’t heard of any new schools being built to accommodate all the immigrant children, who will now or in the future need educating. Our hospitals are already at breaking point, other public services are so strapped for cash that they can’t function now let alone having to accommodate thousands more would be opportunists.
The fact remains as long as we abide by the International laws and EU charter we will never be in control of our own borders therefore it is inevitable we will leave ourselves open to even more large scale immigration?
And just to finish off my rant I applaud multiculturalism and feel our country is all the better for it, but!! was always been under the impression multiculturalism was a means by which different nationalities/cultures could come together in harnomy for the greater goal of the country....Oh dear! Where did it all go wrong? Our towns and cities are fast becoming ghettos where integration has become a dirty word. Surly mulitcultrisem wasn’t brought about to segregate people it was introduced to bring them together....I wonder what the next 30 years have in store for our “United” Kingdom?

Re: Everything you need to know about immigration
I don't need to know anything about immigration!
I am good old fashioned Anglo-Saxon born and bred; but I do know that sometimes passports and documents etc need to be checked before getting involved with people from certain countries - to obey the law, that is.

Dear Graham,
I agree with you. My company has a site in a town called Howden which has a very large Polish population. As a result we employ a lot of Poles....and they are very simply wonderful workers.
Perhaps the solution to the conundrum posed by my dear chum Onelife is not to stop immigration but is to step up the emigration of some of the low life scum who cannot be bothered to get off their arses and find a job and who are content to live on benefits partly financed by taxes paid by the immigrants.

. I thought this made interesting reading.....
The Mail reports that with illegal immigrant backlog of 500,000 cases, and as just 1 in 10 having been removed, border chiefs are preparing to ‘write off’ around 80,000 lost immigration and asylum cases.
Over 180,000 have already been given the right to stay in the country under the ‘legacy’ scheme – another term for an amnesty?
Just 41,300 have been removed or have left voluntarily.
Nearly half a million files were found abandoned in boxes at the Home Office in 2006 in a major immigration scandal.
Since then officials have been working through the backlog to track them down, but are set to admit defeat and abandon around one in six cases.
Border Agency chief executive Rob Whiteman said it was ‘not in the best interests of the taxpayer’ to continue the search.
The latest move could mean tens of thousands more in effect allowed to stay in Britain.
Sir Andrew Green, chairman of the MigrationWatch think tank said: ‘The present Government was left with no alternative given the utter chaos that they inherited.
‘But it is essential that nothing like this should ever be allowed to happen again. It’s the end of a very sorry saga that has been destructive to public confidence in the asylum system.’
In 2006, then Home Secretary John Reid admitted a backlog of around 450,000 immigration and asylum cases had been discovered.
It led to him describing the immigration system as ‘not fit for purpose’.
Last year the UK Border Agency declared that it had cleared the backlog which is thought to total some 500,500 files, but it was forced to admit that 100,000 cases had been left in a ‘controlled archive’ – effectively put on ice.
MPs said this archive was a ‘dumping ground for cases where the UK Border Agency has lost track of the applicant’.
A total of 180,900 individuals have been given the right to stay in Britain – many because they have been here so long illegally that they have started families.
As a result they qualify to stay under Article 8 of the Human Rights Act the right to a family life.
Around 170,000 have been written off as errors, deceased applicants or duplicates – where the case has been dealt with before.
Details of the decision to abandon the search emerged in a letter from Mr Whiteman to MPs on the Commons Home Affairs Select Committee.
In it he claimed that many of the individuals will have left the UK ‘many years ago’, but there is no proof they have departed.
Officials are searching against Government and other databases for evidence that they are still here, but expect to draw a blank in around 80,000 cases, which will then be closed.
Another 25,000 remain to be processed where the migrant has been found in this country.
Mr Whiteman told MPs the backlog of cases will be cut from 90,000 to 63,000 in October and the following month to 28,000. The remaining cases will be dealt with by the end of the year.
When the scandal emerged, the Daily Mail predicted around 160,000 would be granted the right to stay here in what amounted to an amnesty.
At the time, the prediction was dismissed as ‘scaremongering’. But the figures reveal that even that prediction was too optimistic.
Earlier this week, Immigration Matters revealed that a private services company, Capita has won a government US-style ‘bounty hunting’ contract to help find and remove more than 150,000 migrants who have overstayed their student visas.
There is no accurate system for ‘counting-in and counting-out’ the millions of people who arrive in the UK on Tier 4 student visas, tourist visas or as dependants, which makes it almost impossible to know how many people have overstayed in the first place.
There are between 500,000 to 700,000 people living in the UK illegally, which the think tank ippr estimated would take 20 years at a cost of £5 billion to remove.
At least this government are starting to take a more realistic approach to the problem rather than burying their heads in the sand hoping it will all go away
.......
How many of the 100,000 which have gone AWOL do you think will be contributing to our welfare system?
I rather liked the Liberal Democrat’s idea of giving amnesty to all illegal immigrants that had fallen through our totally inefficient border controls. Once signed on the dole they would be subject to all the conditions that apply to our fellow countrymen and ladies.
Then the door that still has no lock could have been closed until such time that we had in place a immigration policy that is fit for purpose.
There are good and bad apples in every basket Robbie of that I am in no doubt..
Catch up with you tomorrow
Regards
Keefy
