Perhaps it's to help prevent situations like this.Silver_Shiney wrote:as I said, bureaucracy gone mad.
The day we moved into our present bungalow, it was very wet and cold outside, so I decided to turn the gas on so we could use the then gas fire in the lounge. No sooner had I done it, than I heard screams from my wife and daughter in the kitchen to turn it off.
The previous owners had taken the gas cooker, but instead go getting somebody competent in to do the job properly, they just sawed through the gas pipe. As a result when I turned the gas on, it was just pumping out gas into the kitchen, where my wife daughter and a few months old granddaughter were standing. My daughter was a smoker at the time!
Luckily my now ex son in law ( not before he had installed a new gas heating system for us) was qualified to properly seal it off, did not need it we have an electric cooker.

Re: Blue Monday
Update on that gas fire...
The engineer came yesterday again and fitted new coals. He had to use one of the old ones because the replacement was broken
He did a fine job and by lowing through the gas injector we had a fire that worked better than it did when new. Or so we thought. When the whole thing had reached its working temperature, the regulator valve stuck on full and would only turn the fire off, which meant I couldn't light it again! After it cooled down, everything worked again until it warmed up!
He's coming back next week... hopefully with all the necessary spares this time.

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

Re: Blue Monday
Aren't they saying that Monday 20th is S.A.D. Monday now?
I'm actually feeling a bit happier today, despite the funeral at 3.00pm of a friend and neighbour. On Monday the sun rises pre 8.00am in Bournemouth...a major milestone in the long March to Spring.
We are over the January hump and coasting down hill towards February. I know; mad as a hatter me!
