Hotels in New Forest advice

As we are spending lots of time in the Windsor area now(instead of Wales) we have decided to explore a bit further south.

We like the Macdonald chain of hotels and have been recommended to stay at Botely Golf and Country Club.
I also like the look of Careys Manor.
We would like to explore the New Forest, having never been there.

Anyone been to either of these hotels?

I have looked on TA and most of the reviews are ok.

Hi Sue, never stayed at either, but agree that MacDonald hotels are normally good so should be OK. I am sure others will have used them and will advise further.... Enjoy the New Forest, we are only 50 mins away so go there a lot and it is wonderful, especially in end June/July when you can see many mares and foals...

There are so many choices in, or near to, this area and it basically comes down to the style and price that suits you best.

Of the two you mention my own choice would be Careys Manor.

We've stayed at Botley Park G & C Club several times ( pre cruise ) and it's very nice.

MOB is Careys Manor close to Southampton ( as in close to the Port ) it looks very nice.

I like Macdonald hotels too.

It is in Brockenhurth which is less than 15 miles from the Cruise Terminals.

Consider this one too, perhaps, it is a similar distance.

Hmmm that looks nice, I'm thinking maybe we should spend a couple of days in Hampshire before our summer cruise ( when I book one ) I know my husband would enjoy the Beaulieu motor museum as well and a couple of days would give us time to do things like that and 15 miles isn't that far from the port.

Ohh thats nice !! They do a Dinner B&B package too.

Will be staying for two nights and I do like that wooden lattice work four poster !!

I was only looking it because it was a Macdonald hotel, as we are "By invitation only" members and know we would get a fantastic room and good rates and the spa is an attraction.
But we dont know the area at all.
We did want a more rural hotel, love the one Moby gave the link to.
Looking forward to exploring the area over the next few months.

From the video it looks a lovely Hotel, in some ways it reminds of me of where I used to work, in that it used to be Hotel, Golf, Country Club and Spar

Have just read this under important information re the hotel

Well Graham...hmmmmm The Chewton Glen looks amazing...I LOVE the tree house !!!

But its just a little more than I wanted to spend...lol

The Master Builder's is also very very nice.
The dates I wanted are fully booked online, but Im going to ring up and talk to them..you never know..lol
Its in a lovely location.

of course looking for them online brought up lots of others !!!
Quite a choice.

Yes, a 194 Bedroom, with 2 major golf courses (links & lakes), even had its own top class football pitch, for the premiership & international football teams (inc England when Beckham was in the team) who used to stay, so they could train on.


Just a few stories.

I was taken to lunch at the Montagu Arms on Mothers' Day last year and had a lovely lunch. The hotel is old and in a beautiful setting. Botley is quite a way from the New Forest if that's where you want to go - it would take at least 30-40 mins by car. The Master Builders House is good and again in a lovely setting. I was also taken last year for lunch at Limewood, Brockenhurst. It's "the" hotel to go to at the moment but very pricey. It's very minimalist, beautifully done but wouldn't be my favourite although it is lovely and the service is good.

Well we are off this weekend to a hotel in Lymington...but Iv just had a good laugh to myself.

I can endorse this

Argos - Witherspoons - Poundsavers were all refused permission to trade in Lymington High Street

Though I do believe that the "might" of 'Spoons have now defeated the Town Fathers

A handful of 'Spoons vouchers may have sealed the deal

BUT Lymington is a very charming town, and holds a very big upmarket street market every Saturday

Dress MUST be formal, sans denins of course

Lymington is quite nice...we stopped for a coffee post cruise in the (Best Western I think) hotel in the centre.

It also has a cracking butcher's shop on the main street who does great wild venison sausages. If you do go, would you call and get me a few KG?

Have just been looking at some photo's of the area, looks a lovely place to spend a week end.

I vaguely remember getting a ferry from Lymington to the Isle of Wight, many many years ago, but this is one coastline I have not spent much time along. I did stay overnight once in Weymouth further along the coast, and visited a couple of other places, we were on our way to Cornwall and used Weymouth as an overnight stay.

I notice on one of the photo's, there is a train along side the pier in Lymington, can somebody tell me where this goes to.

Now that we have a place in Windsor we hope to explore the south coast a lot more in the summer months.
We might even get over to the IOW and maybe we will get an invite for coffee

Brockenhurst, it used to be a Branch line connection with the ferry service to Yarmouth on the I of W.

No idea if or how it operates presently though

This scenic train line is run by SW Trains

The rolling stock has recently been renewed

There is a train each way every 30 minutes with just a 11 minute journey to the Pier head to connect with the IOW Yarmouth ferry service

Lymington Town Station has won the best kept station on several occasions

During last Summer there was a ticket from Brockenhurst which included HOHO both on Island Railway and Vectis buses

Interestingly Island Railway uses ex London Underground trains circa 1950

But be aware . . . You will be in our lovely HK territory
