Has the internet gone nuts - or is it me?

Unread post by Boris+ »

I've had a few issues with the dear old www recently.

For example - on the weekend I went on a national website and tried to make a purchase - and it wouldn't let me get into the payment section. So, I knew I had selected the items and had completed everything correctly, but beyond that nothing. So I tried my husband's computer - same situation. I rang the company and placed the order over the phone and received an immediate confirmation email (and subsequent contact for delivery), but the company said it was because I had a foreign IP address - which we don't.

Then yesterday afternoon I went into my internet banking, and made some transactions - this was no later than mid-afternoon. I went into the same account today and saw that the transactions had been dated with today's date (15th), whereas the transactions were done by me yesterday (14th), and when I double checked that things had been successfully completed yesterday the screen showed that the transactions had been done on 14th, (not 15th as it alleges today).

It doesn't really matter with the bank because the balances are all 100% present and correct, but I just wonder what is going on.

I've also had problems received a WhatsApp message today - took about 4 hours to receive it.

So - anyone else having problems etc?

Cheers Em :relaxed:

It is perfectly normal for companies to effect a transaction on the 14th and then for you to see it hit your Bank else Credit Card dated the 15th, it generally happens because the seller does not process their own sales transactions but passes them on to thems that do during the small hours else after their cut off time.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

No particular problems here with t'internet

How do you know that you do not have a foreign IP address? Whilst you may believe that your IP address is from the UK (and it probably is) there are a multitude of checks that can be done on IP addresses which will sometimes throw up a "false positive". It is also possible that your IP address is in a block that has been allocated to another country.

As for the bank - in my experience they "work in mysterious ways their wonders to perform". It could well just be a timing issue.

Hi Moby,

It just seemed strange to me that funds arrived lickety-split, and then I was able to 'play' with those funds on 14th, the info viewed on the final visit to the balances overview page confirmed that my machinations had been completed successfully on 14th, and then the next day the date when allegedly I had done the movements of funds had been changed to 15th.

I'm not really worried as all the balances are 100% correct, it's just a conundrum.

Oh well, hey de ho - best go and put the kettle on.

Might be worth doing a full virus scan and a check for malware.
