Little Boy Missing

Unread post by jay-ell71 »

Am I alone in thinking that a three year old child would not be able to get himself dressed, put on shoes and let himself out of a locked flat, during the hours of darkness?

Mikaeel Kular is missing, This is a horrendous situation….. but there is something very odd about it, isn't there?

No you are not alone Jay, it does all seem a bit odd.

I just hope the little boy is found safe and quickly.

The circumstances were too strange to start with. As Jay mentions how many 3 year olds would think of doing that.
I would like to think there was a happy outcome but as time passes it is becoming more frightening.

I think that at this stage all I can say is that maybe something isn't right.

However - I saw some pictures on the tv earlier, and somehow got the impression that the property the child allegedly 'escaped' from is maybe on a newish development, about 3 years old-ish at a guess.

If (and I stress the 'if') that is the case, then it is a possibility that a child could let himself out. Chatting with someone about it this afternoon, I have properties which have locks which would be too high for a 3 year old to reach (without a chair or something to stand on), but then I have a property which isn't very old, and in which all the exterior doors could be opened easily by a young child - the design of the lock furniture on the insides of these doors is such that a simple twist of the 'toggle' will open the door - and worryingly I now notice that a young child would find them at a very convenient height.

Thousands of newish properties have been recently built and are still being built with locks which could be easily operated by young children. Fine in the event of a fire - but otherwise it's a worry. Don't the builders think about these things?

I hope it all turns out ok, anyway.

Have to agree that it does seem to be a "bit of a long shot" - but also not totally impossible. The point is though that if he did do it of his own volition then I cannot see how nobody would have seen him in two days. In my experience a three year old is not "street wise" enough to survive on his own so there must be someone else involved.

My gut feeling is that there is a family member involved somewhere in what hopefully will not end as a tragedy.

Every parents worst nightmare..... if the child has go walkabouts he would have been seen by someone surely?

Bit early to speculate but l've got a feeling this isn't going to have a happy ending.

Both my children could dress themselves at 3 (though not necessarily in what I wanted them to wear), and modern children's shoes have velcro fastenings so are easier to put on. As other have said, new doors can be easy to open.
I hope they find him safe, whatever happened.

What I found was strange was that he usually slept in the same bedroom as his twin sister but for some reason, which wasn't reported why, he wasn't on the night he went missing. All seems a bit suspect to me but I hope I'm wrong and he's found safe and well.

It appears from the news this morning the body of a young boy has been found.

Police have discontinued their local search which points to a very sad story unfolding.

Well the reports are on the tv that the body of a young boy has been found - and it's sad beyond words.

I suppose the question which many will be thinking is one of whether the boy opened the door for himself, or whether it was opened by an adult for him.

That then makes me worry about our own external doors at home, and given that our current lock system would permit a young-ish child to operate the locks from the inside (including locking the door to keep people out), what is the best thing to do (bearing in mind if there was ever a fire and people wanted to get out quickly) should people (including me) with this type of door and locking system fit something like an additional chain a little higher up than the existing ones?

However, it's very sad how this has turned out.

Awful, awful news. But I suppose not so surprising. The story told by the mother was suspect, wasn't it? We will have to wait and see how this all came about.
I am feeling particularly disturbed by this tragedy. My dear grandson, who is four and a half, is only just putting his shoes on, and as for a coat........he likes to wear it with the hood on his head only, like a cape.

RIP an innocent child.

Jay, As a Mum there are things that jump out at you from the start. Putting a child to bed and not checking on them until the morning sounded very strange to me. When I went to bed I always looked in at my children and gave them an extra kiss.
One report says that Mikaeel hadn't been to nursery since Xmas so my personal view is that something took place prior to the police being called in.
All the Police officers and members of the local community who were searching for him must feel heartbroken to day.

Andrea. I agree absolutely about bed time. It would be impossible not to look in on the children when they are in bed.

Also, not being at school since Xmas. All suspicious. Of course the authorities did not have to check on him as he was below the legal age for school attendance.

All those people searching? and all the time someone knew it was in vain.

quite possible - we had a mum come into playgroup one morning saying her 3 year old had got up, dressed and trotted off to the shop in the night. Luckily the shopkeeper recognised him and brought him back!

I too was very suspicious about this when I read it. I didn't believe a three year old could have got himself dressed and found his way out of this flat. When my children were small a pin dropping would wake me up. Sadly it looks like another case of a non-coping parent.

What a dreadful tragedy. Every child is precious, and ill treatment of them and murder, feels like a stab in the heart. Whatever the children are like, they are dependent on us to nurture, feed and encourage them in their formative years. It is the grossest form of betrayal by society not to care for them in every way possible.

I too was suspicious, apparently he hasn't been seen at his nursery since they broke up at Christmas. It is sad beyond belief that anyone could harm a child, especially a mother, if the news is to be believed.

From Sky News ....

The mother of three-year-old Mikaeel Kular has been charged with his murder during an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

She is also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice and has been remanded in custody.

Rosdeep Adekoya made no plea or declaration in response to the charges.

Her next date in court is expected to be January 28 and, like today's hearing, it will be held in private.

Harming any child and certainly when it is your own child is something I can never get my head round.

4 young children have lost their brother and I would say they have also lost their Mother for some considerable time.

What a tragedy for young children to handle. .

A tragedy indeed, but perhaps the mother was ill and not in control of her actions. Whatever, she also has to live with this forever.
