Well done Maureen and Keith.

I am feeling motivated again today with the 2 1/2 lb loss. I am determined to get down to 9 1/2 stone by Wednesday 29 January.

Yes the big positive today are that at last the sun is shining, the sunrise is noticeably earlier, My oil paints and canvasses are going up in the conservatory again today, I am still only the same weight that I was this time last year with BMI 24.8, and the good lady Sue has been invited to a ladies lunch.

The last one may not seem indicative of weight loss for either of us, at first glance, but I have been keen for a while for Sue to get out more, and focus on housework less. Now there are social events in Sue's diary I prophesy a more confident Sue

Cant stop; must enjoy this sunshine while it lasts. :D

Shock .... Horror I haven't lost an ounce :o

What can I say ......

My own fault because I haven't really been that good this week ( still in cruise mode ) plus we were at a 'birthday bash' last night and had a huge meal and the wine flowed all night ( I deserve to suffer this morning  )

Anyway a new week, no vino for me now and very sensible eating for the next 7 days.

Well done to everyone who has lost.

I have no intention of wearing bigger knickers soooooo there will definitely be a positive weigh in next week

Don't know about sore losers but if you stick that 'wooden spoon' where I assume Mrs Keefy has told you to stick it .. now that would be sore :lolno: :lolno:

What with a disappointing turn out this week...probably due to the heavy going several runners failed to make the weigh in, however this in no takes anything away from this week runaway winner of the coveted celery stick.

 Congratulations  Kaziebelle on losing a magnificent 7.1/2 lbs

Well done you.

For anyone disheartened by their loss this week.

On the News this morning it claims chocolate and red wine have proved to be effective in combatting diabetes.

I suppose it means make hay whilst the sun shines as they are certainly not part of a staple diet if you become diabetic.

I'm not sure if I'm depressed now or relieved after going for the over 65 NHS health check this morning. The good points were my cholesterol is 5.24 but it was not a fasting check, just blood taken at the surgery so hopefully a fasting check would be below 5. My height is 5 feet 2.5 inches and my ideal weight should be 9st 10lbs. Well, unfortunately I'm almost a stone over that and I was only aiming to get down to 10 st 5lbs so that has made me fed up. I think she said my BMI is 27 and my heart age is 66 yrs which I will be this year. My BP was 132/???? So some good things there and some not so good. However, I am not going to aim for less than 10st 5lbs as I know I am comfortable at that weight and my size 14 clothes fit me nicely. I have had a lot of my size 16s taken in and replaced others with 14s.

Am I burying my head in the sand by not aiming for 9st 10lbs and probably having to buy a load of size 12 clothes. Apparently, the readings indicate that I have a 12% risk of developing Cardio Vascular disease in the next 10 years - this is a medium risk. Sometimes I think a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and I almost wish I hadn't bothered going for the check up but people kept saying that I should go as I haven't been to the doctors in about 20 years because I was feeling fine. Luckily I still feel fine but now I have that nagging doubt that I should do more.

Maureen.

I've got a health check tomorrow, Maureen, and I'm already being monitored for slightly high blood pressure and cholesterol levels. At 5' 7", I thought my weight should be around 11st (it's actually down now to 12st 7 lb), but according to a BMI website, I should be just over 8st. Hopefully tomorrow will provide more accurate information.

I understand how you feel but surely if there's a problem, it's best to find out and get it dealt with? If that means ditching your current wardrobe and buying anew, isn't that preferable to splashing out on a wooden overcoat?

Maureen, I consider myself to be fit and healthy but do have various medical issues which for over 20 years have been been kept in control through medication.

I am considerably older than you and know that if I was to be at the recommended weight level I wouldn't be happy. The older you get it is your face that alters with any weight loss , it also alters the condition of your hair.

I am usually 5lb above the recommended level and I am happy at that.

My problem is eating very little and eating the wrong things. I also need to drink more as 3 cups of coffee is my limit .
I am trying to get inspired by other people's comments and advice so that when I get back from holiday I can try and become a healthier eater.

SS, My OH is the same height as you and is 11st. Your health is top of the list and you will know whether a pound more or a pound less is right for you .

Maureen, being a 'glass half full' type of gal I would look at that as having an 88% chance of never developing CVD, I would also look at how many of us are actually the weight which is classed as 'ideal' very few I would think

We can all help ourselves by making little changes to our lifestyles which will hopefully extend the length of time we are here but there are no guarantees for any of us.

Probably rather flippant of me but when I go it will be with a glass of Red in one hand and a ciggie in the other shouting 'what a great time I've had'

Of course when that time arrives I will have reached my 'ideal' weight with the rest of you 'pinch an inchers' so I might just manage a cream cake as well.

Hi SS, Andrea and DQ - thanks for your replies.

Some years ago I was over 12 stone and struggled and struggled to get down to 10.7. It took a couple of years and I actually dropped to 10.5 but then settled at 10.7 for a couple of years. I have let things slip for a while and went up to 10.12. following the last 24 day cruise in October and then not getting much exercise due to the wet, wet, wet weather here in the last couple of months. I am only a fair weather walker.

I can see the sense in Alan's reply and if I get down slightly lower than the 10.5 by a few more pounds I will see what happens. However, I quite agree with Andrea about seeing people who have taken things too far and it shows in their face particularly. I know the dresses aren't as important as my health but I also know that I am much more aware of what I eat and drink now - I don't smoke, never have and I only have a couple of glasses of wine on a Saturday evening. I also know I could improve things by walking more regularly and perhaps those improvements will help trim me up a bit more but I'm not going to stress about 9 st.10lbs and will try to find a weight ( possibly less than 10.5 if it happens) that I can settle at and still feel comfortable. I think the likelihood of me needing to buy size 12s is very unlikely as my 14s fit where they touch at the moment so there is a bit of room for improvement there anyway.

DQ - now that I have really thought about your reply, I can see things differently. I no longer look at a 12% chance of dying from heart disease instead it is much better to think that there is an 88% chance of not getting it. Good thinking. That has cheered me up.

Hi all,
Well done Kaziebelle and keep up the good work.

I have actually managed a full alcohol free week so feel very pleased with myself. I lost the 2 1/2 lb I was aiming for but secretly hoped for more as I had been 100% good and stuck to the diet rigidly in the 7 day period.

I do find it harder to get off as I near target weight especially as I get older. I have always aimed for
9 st 7 lb but really at 5 ft 4 inches I should be a little less. I am happy at that so that is what I aim for. I usually manage it just before we go on a cruise and then start all over again when I get back. I think even if we stopped cruising I would be just the same. I can only get in the mood for dieting when I have a holiday on the horizon.

Good evening pinchers,

Hope you're all managing to stick to your diet plans and good luck to those of you have started this week.

Due to my wife and daughter having cod for dinner this evening l decided to try one of the Heinz weight watchers meals....the lasagne (285 cal) was lovely as was the Heinz sticky toffee cheese cake (185 cal) which was a really nice treat. However l think l need to get my eye sight checked as my first attemp to cook the cheese cake failed miserably which isnt surprising when you consider it never should have spent 5 minutes in the microwave....on closer inspection the 5 on the front of the box read 5 points not 5 minutes in the microwave. As you can guess it didn't look very appetising when it emerged and smelt even worse. I did eventually let the other one thaw out naturally which is what l would have done if l had read the box more carfully.

Well for some of us we are now into our third week and l don't know about you but l've settled into a nice routine....my Ryvita, cottage, ham and colsaw lunches with the odd slice of black pudding plus my favourite green olives have kept me from wearing those bigger knickers and that's the way l hope it will stay untill l get to my target weight of 11 stone 10 lbs.

Stay strong pinchers and remember fridge pincher wear bigger knickers.

Lets see if we can all lose a lb or two before this Sunday's weigh- n....l know you can do it.

Regards

Keith
