Every Little Has Stopped

Unread post by david63 »

Has anyone else noticed that the 5% discount on six bottles of wine from Tesco is no more?

I was looking at my receipt today and noticed that I had not received the discount (not the end of the world - I know) so sent an email to enquire about it. Apparently it stopped on the 7th October last year.

I bet they make more noise about its return than they did about it stopping

Another little saving has also ceased.

Atlantic Gas and Electric no longer give you a prompt payment discount. Not a much but it all helped.

So s*d'm, they can wait for there money from now on.

That completely passed me by, just checked my receipt from last week and confirm no discount.
We tend to check supermarket offers on the net and buy our merlot wines wherever the bargains are, assume sainsburys and waitrose have stopped as well, but again have not noticed.

As an aside, when shopping last week a Turner Road Merlot that sold for over £10 a bottle, but was often on offer at half price, was being sold for £5.24 not on offer. Checked with the manager of the department, he stated that from the beginning of October, if they had an offer running for more than four weeks then by law the offer price had to become the actual price. Confusing but possibly related.

I hadn't noticed either ... cheeky devils :o

I know 5% isn't a fortune but very often if I have only wanted 3 or 4 bottles I've bought the extra 2 to get a bit more off, I won't bother in future so their loss.

Thanks for that info David I certainly had not noticed and until it comes back that may change my wine buying habits, apart from the occasional 25% off deals.
I have started buying the occasional bottle from our local newsagent/off licence when I pay the papers, just to help him stay in business. I have noticed that his regular prices are well below Tesco and Sainsbury's standard prices and his special offers are as good as their special offers, but not as many or wide ranging. So I might be increasing my local purchases in future.

In my (limited :) ) experience, Jonty, "half-price" wine from Tesco was only ever worth the lower price anyway. Imo those offers were little more than a scam. M&S' occasional 25% off the whole range (6 bottles or more) is a much better, more genuine deal overall, I believe. Just make sure you buy enough to last you until the next offer.

Too true Kaymar, most of the half price wines are worth no more than the offer price. Unfortunately the supermarkets have introduced this 36 bottle rule and that doesn't last us a month. ;)

I can see how that might be a problem, Jonty. You can always buy on line as well, though - same offers and minimal delivery cost.

Sounds good, Jean. One of my current favourites is Bodega Castro Martin Albarino - £12 per bottle but a bargain when it's 25% off

In Tesco quite often their 'special offers' simply aren't - it doesn't take much to 'do the maths'.

There is no such thing as a 'free lunch' at the big T.

Oh, dear, have they upset you in some way, Mary Jane? Do they realise how dangerous that can be? :o

Manoverboard - 5% at Sainsbury's? I bought six bottles yesterday but got no discount. I keep all my receipts because I buy tea/coffee/milk and biscuits for my choir and have had no 5% off the minimum six bottles I buy every week.

Reminds me of an experience on Ryanair. We arrived late on one flight, and the self-celebratory trumpeting about flights arriving on time was strangely lacking! I did devise an alternative announcement that they could make, which went along the lines of "Oh feck...we're late again", in an Irish accent - accompanied by an out of tune trumpet.

Don't you remember Kaymar they cancelled my Christmas order just before Christmas last year. A system error they said. I have a long memory and I don't forgive easily. I'm sure they knew how I felt. Shoprite is getting all my business now.

Oh, Yes. emjay, I remember now - sorry, I rarely remember anything for longer than a week. :) Absolutely right, I wouldn't go back either, and you're also right, Shopright are OK, especially with the Waitrose lines which they carry.

Apologies

I have just added half a dozen bottles to an Online order and had the same result as you.
