Come 2014

Unread post by HK phooey »

So, hands up who'll be off to start a new life in Romania or Bulgaria?
And who is the likely winner of this battle? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-21490544

The reason these people want to come here is because the benefits system is so lax and easy to rip off. Which means that the other countries' benefits system are not so easy to take advantage of. So why on earth can't this country make it difficult as well. Europe will tell us we have to give everything away to anybody who wants it (except if they were born and bred here) and we'll just say, "Oh - OK then! Let'em through"

I have nothing against Romanians or Bulgarians (my daughter-in-law is Romanian, university educated and fluent in at least three languages) or anyone else but those who just want something for nothing get right up my nose and that includes Brits.
Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

Hi HK

Whenever I hear politicians such as Ian Duncan Smith saying... “and I think we will be able to tighten up and make those regulations much tougher for people coming in just to take advantage of our benefits system."” actually translates to “I haven’t got a clue what will happen”.

As we speak European fraudsters who now reside in this country due to having got lost in our chaotic immigration system will be working overtime producing forged documents so that those that do come will never have to return.

HK there’s no way I’m going to start a new life in Romania or Bulgaria... their benefits system is Cr*p compared to ours.

Regards

Keith.

This is actually a very worrying situation, not just for us but also for Romania and Bulgaria. From our point of view it means more money will probably mean more UK tax money will be shipped over seas doing significant damage to small businesses. From the Romanian/Bulgarian point of view, sending the equivalent of our benefits system into their economy is going push up inflation, reduce their work force and give a two tier society.

The one thing that the EU needs to do is to only pay benefits based on the rate the person would receive in their own country ... alternatively, the benefits are paid by the country of origin of the person (and at the rate they would receive if still living in that country) .... that would level the playing field and stop much of the migration-for-benefits that is occurring. It would also stop the people trafficking and blackmarket activities that seem to be booming.

Naturally we should welcome all those that bring skills and perform jobs in this country.

Having travelled extensively in Romania and Bulgaria we should all support IDS cos there are zillions waiting in the wings to take advantage of idiots who will pay out benefits for doing s*d all.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

An "old" thread, but a very current subject.

I can't say that I have been knocked down by the tidal wave of Romanian and Bulgarian immigrants since the first of January. There are a lot of Romanians in Hull, all seem to be gainfully employed cleaning the cars of lazy Brits or taxiing the likes of me home from the pub.

More pathetic sensationalism from our pathetic media.

They must be living somewhere. There's an enormous shortage of housing in England. Not to mention water, power, doctors, dentists, hospitals ....

QB, they obviously are living somewhere and as such probably paying rent to somebody and paying over the odds as most of us are for water and power. As most of them are in gainful employment they are paying taxes and have therefore earned the right to services such as the NHS. I would rather a hardworking Romanian benefiting from the infrastructure of the UK than a workshy Brit who has existed on benefits all his life.

But they are using infrastructure that they haven't paid for. Other countries insist that immigrants have a sizeable amount of capital when they enter. We live in a horrendously overcrowded island with no room to breathe. And if they're renting somewhere then that housing is not available to the indigenous population.

Move to Hull QB...other members of this illustrious forum have! There is plenty of room to breathe up here. I am happy for the bloke from Transylvania (honestly) to take me home from the pub on a Thursday night, same as I am for the Kosovan who owns the local chippy to sell me fish and chips. My wife has a school full of Poles and they are all model pupils with better English than some of the locals. Keep the hardworking immigrants in my book and ship the lazy deadbeat locals off to a remote Scottish Island.
