Winter Olympics

Unread post by Stephen »

Funnily enough I am really enjoying the snow boarding competitions. I have skied before myself many years ago, and boarders use to be pain in the ar*e, cutting across you. But watching them in the Olympics I now appreciate their skill. Mind you, being so young they have no fear. Not like me, I'd take one look down from the top of the start podium and that would be enough for me :D

Did anyone see the women's cross country yesterday. God, that is one hard sport.

All respect to them

I watched the opening ceremony on Friday and thought that in its own way it was as good as London's.

I am somewhat disappointed by the BBC's coverage as there is no "roundup" after 19:00 - I would have preferred something about 10 at night.

Thoroughly enjoying the Winter Olympics, thought Jenny Jones was brilliant this morning.

Loved the opening ceremony, brought back memories of the London Olympics opening ceremony.

BBC sport have a very good app, which I am watching on the IPad, great for watching the highlights as well as live coverage.

Agree with all my shipmates comments, a very high standard of competitors plus plaudits to the Russian hosts, it seems they have got their act together

Ought wrong with sharing toilets facilities etc

Mrs and Miss AOTH are on strike for the duration......they have discovered the "red button" are into about their sixth hour of figure skating and ice dance today.

The Alan Davies "Apres Ski" programme on Friday was very funny.

We watched the first two minutes of the first "Apres Ski" programme and turned over.

Appalling and cringeworthy scripted crap IMO ( which Alan Davies didn't seem to believe in - unsurprisingly).
I'm pleased to hear that it has improved though..

The skating has been amazing. So graceful, yet exciting and brilliantly skillfull. It puts some of our petulant premier league footballers into perspective, and their wags. We really enjoyed it and especially yesterday the Italian lady Carolina Kostner, it was her bad luck to be up against the free spirited Yulia Lipnitskaya. We wondered if that little Russian girl will have a few more inhibitions in her performance as she grows older?

Had not heard of the programme, but just tried to watch it on IPlayer, like you thought it absolute rubbish, lasted about as long as you.

The only sport that is not scary is curling

Curling? Sorry it is Booorring. Had to turn it off.

The Mogul run is the most scary, or is it the Snow boarding jumping/flying thing?. How mad is that? The tea tray? the Luge? all  !!!

Skating,….. beautiful…. never tire of watching it.

Flying down an ice slope on a tin tray, flat on your back? How scary is that?

I do agree about the skating especially the dance and pairs. However you can't fail to be impressed by the grace and elegance of the ladies or the athleticism of the men.

And the speed skaters - wow!!

Big thumbs up for the Winter Olympics from me - even curling!!!
I was taught to be cautious
