Wheel refurbishment

Unread post by Onelife »

Decided to have the wheels on our car refurbished today and l'm delighted with the results. Over the past year the wheels had started to look a little worse for wear so much so that rust had started to show in places where the powder coating had started to lift/bubble. The process required having the tyers removed in readiness for the dipping/stripping process. Once this was completed they were then shock blasted to remove any remaining powder coating. Then it was on with the new powder coating, finished off with a quick blast in the oven, tyres refiited, balanced, and all for £180.....now that's what l call value for money.

Regards

OL

As it's a Reliant Robin £60 a wheel isn't bad Onelife. One squirt of Pledge and the bodywork comes up like new.

No matter how careful you are it's very difficult to avoid catching the rims on the kerbs, especially when parking. I've got low profiles so it's even worse. That sounds great though, Keith. Was it a local firm or a national one?

Funnily enough, I've had that done on the MX5 this weekend as well OL

Both fronts were 'kerbed', not by me I may add, so decided to get them all done

Very, very pleased with the results

Wheels maketh a car

Mrs Barney can start all over again now :sarcasm:

We had ours done last year because of 'bubbling' and paid a similar price to OL by a local garage, the main dealer quoted us over £1000, what was really annoying we'd already had them replaced under warranty ( they said it was a known fault ) and yet the replacements went the same way ..out of warranty of course

Hi OBF

My father used to drive a Relient Robin which was the next step up from his love of his motorbikes. l would imagine this was a great relief for my mother who used to ride pillion while us kids had the luxury of the sidecar. Now l can't remember what the hand single was but l do recall that Relient Robin owners had a special sign they made when passing each other...well l think they did as my father wasn't one to make rude jestures to other motorists. :)

Yes, it was a local firm, two actually as l had to go through one company for the tyre removal and the other for the powder coating process, athough there was no hassle in doing this as the powder coating company collected and returned the finished wheels back to the tyre company for refitting. Incedentaly, to have 4 Rav 4 wheels refurbished only cost £110 inc vat, the rest was for tyre removal and refitting.
