The place has been swamped with Jehovah's Witnesses ( cos we saw them in advance we knew to ignore the door bell).
They carefully rang rather than knocking etc etc at each property and waited 'for ever' for the doors to be answered.
If they can do it, why can't everyone?

I had a JW come to the office a couple of years ago, very bemused as he couldn't work out if it was an office or a dwelling. I showed him round the museum and didn't let him get a word in edgeways, even gave him some literature to take away

My brother would ... he reckons the only way to stop them calling is to play them at their own game .. so he invites them in and keeps them there for hours discussing all sorts of philosophical ideals until they are virtually begging to leave. He now seems to have got himself onto a blacklist for both the JWs and mormons ... all his neighbours complain about the number of calls but yet they never visit my brother's door. Last time they were in the neghbourhood my brother was standing idly looking out the window while drinking a cup of coffee ... a couple of JWs (?) walked past and looked in ... my brother pointed to his coffee and waved them to come in ... they stuck their heads down and hurried past to his next door neighbour.Quizzical Bob wrote:But nobody would answer the door!david63 wrote:Obviously the answer is for Jehovahs Witnesses to start up a delivery company - simplesMeg 50 wrote:I'm intrigued - we've had all these posts about delivery personnel knocking and not waiting.

I wonder if the JW's ever get fed up of people being so rude to them, when they do manage to catch me out ie: I have answered the door before realising who they are I literally just say 'no thank you' and shut the door in their face.

I agree DQ, I have never understood the need to be rude to them (and I have seen some people be very rude). Usually a 'no thank you' is suffice, but if they push I usually say, in a friendly way, that they will be wasting both their time and my time and they get the hint.Dancing Queen wrote:I wonder if the JW's ever get fed up of people being so rude to them, when they do manage to catch me out ie: I have answered the door before realising who they are I literally just say 'no thank you' and shut the door in their face.

I'm not rude to them - if I am unaware enough to open the door to them. But I do find them hard to get rid of.Kendhni wrote:My brother would ... he reckons the only way to stop them calling is to play them at their own game .. so he invites them in and keeps them there for hours discussing all sorts of philosophical ideals until they are virtually begging to leave. I had a friend who invited them in to pray and they begged to go. I'd like to, but I'm worried they might not go!
A previous vicar had them knock on her during Princess Di's funeral... I said, " but surely they recognise a vicar as a lost cause?" She said, " yes, but they don't see my family as such and keep on knocking"
JD's godmother probably had the best answer... her son hes Haemophilia... they used to answer the door and comment that they are sorry they took so long, they were just getting factor 8 out of the fridge!

Nor me Meg but I sometimes feel like being, around here they went through a phase of bringing young children with them ( I'm talking 3 or 4 year olds ) and when you opened the door they pushed the children in front of them, I thought that was disgusting because most of us will acknowledge children and talk to them, the last lot that came were 2 old grannies now even I find it hard to shut the door on old ladies
Still 10/10 for effort they keep coming up with new ideas

Spitting blood with my mobile company
Was offered a very attractive package to cover all my mobile phone, txt and data require ments
Tried several times action this brilliant offer to no avail
BUT . . . have now got the offer set up
The plonker was yours truly and not the Company
The moral to this - just be certain that the company is at fault afore rubbishing them
You know it makes sense

Before they can get into their spiel l say..."can l stop you there, l'm an athiest" which tends to cut the conversation short...if they persist l start unzipping my flys which tends to have the desired effect...l think thats got to be better than being verbally rude to those who wish to disrupt my Sunday dinner...don’t you?Kendhni wrote:I agree DQ, I have never understood the need to be rude to them (and I have seen some people be very rude). The way to deter Jehovah's Witnesses is to put a blood donor sticker in the window. It's like garlic to a vampire.

Re: The Most Incompetent Company You Have Dealt With
I am seething! I ordered something for our forthcoming holiday from Amazon and paid extra to have it delivered the next day - today. I was in the sitting room this morning looking at some of the paperwork for our cruise. At about 10.25 the door bell rang and it was the postman with something else I had ordered, and there on the mat was a card from a delivery company saying they had tried to deliver my order at 10.02 and there was no answer! They didn't ring, knock or anything else! So I look at the card and these are my options: 1. Collect from the depot - which I now know is 13.2 miles away. 2. Leave in a safe place where I have to leave the card and I arrange this via the internet. 3. Change the delivery details, time etc. which could be any day, Monday-Friday 0.7.30 - 18.00 - no charge. 4. Upgrade the delivery so it is before noon but again it could be any day Monday - Friday 0.7.30-12.00 and it will cost me £5 plus VAT!!
There was a phone no so seething I called it, guess what it is a recorded message. Eventually I decided I would have to go and get it from the depot. If I re-arrange the delivery who's to say they will ring the bell or knock the knocker and I will have to be in every morning until 12.00 and pay for the pleasure. If I say a safe place, which would be inside our back gate by the back door, the last time I told a company that I had to go on a hunt and eventually found the parcel inside my neighbour's back garden.
In case anyone is interested the delivery company is DPD - interlink express. What is even more annoying is that the man who started the company lives in our village but I think he sold out several years ago!
Am now trying to calm down and think calming thoughts about our forthcoming cruise!

With these delivery companies, I think it depends on the efficiency of the local courier.
As I do the majority of my shopping online these days, I'm quite well known to the local couriers, so they will always knock on my door. I also take in quite a few things for the neighbours too, as the couriers know that I'm willing to do this

I agree Gill, our Postman is really good and will try very hard to leave any parcels with a neighbour if I'm out. There's another company who often delivers things and he's very good too, will really make an effort to wait and give me a chance to get to the door. The company this morning is one I've never had dealings with before - and hope to never again!

Re: The Most Incompetent Company You Have Dealt With
I do not know the name of the company involved, but they phoned on Monday to say they were going to make a delivery to the office on Tuesday - between 0700 and 0930. Hallo? How many offices open by 0700? We were told we could change the delivery date to something a bit more sensible but it wouldn't be until next week - we've got an engineer coming on Friday to fit the item, so it has to be this week. Anyway, we arranged that someone would be here for 0700. Needless to say, it didn't arrive. Yesterday afternoon, I received a phone call from the company saying they had record of a "failed delivery" and the goods were now back in the warehouse. I pointed out that no attempt had been made to deliver and we were promised delivery today, after 0830. I made sure I was here well before then.
We're still waiting.....

Having just spent 25 minutes waiting in a queue to bank some cheques I would have to nominate 'Santander' why do they only have 2 positions open and then the cashier try to 'sell' you anything/everything from a mortgage to an updated debit card ... I want neither and if I did I would ask
grrrrrr
