Another Sad Day

Unread post by Stephen »

They say a trouble shared is a trouble halved. I'm hoping I can gain some comfort for our loss by sharing this sad news with you.

Sorry to be the bearer of sad news, but we no longer have our Millie with us. We had a knock at the door last night (Tuesday) just after 7pm from a passer by who asked if we owned a black and white cat that was lying the other side of our road. She had been hit by a vehicle, we don’t know what vehicle and it doesn’t matter, and it is no ones fault. The only thing we do know is she died instantly.

She now rests in the flower bed under the lounge window.

As you can imagine we are devastated. She was a beautiful cat that we loved to bits in her short life of less than three years.

She will be sadly missed :(

Monty her brother, I'm sure knows something is wrong. He's been hiding up at the end of our bed all day, and even now won't go out.

Oh Stephen, I am so sorry. Dear Millie, so very young. Try to take comfort in knowing we are all with you. Monty will be missing her and you may find he is even more affectionate towards you than before. Our Murrie is such a cuddlier since his companion has left us, I am sure we have taken her place in his mind. He used to sleep with his head on her body all the time. With very best wishes. Judith

Losing a pet is awful - remember the good times, and look after the one you still have.

Very sorry indeed to hear your news.

Stephen,

I'm really sorry to hear your devastating news...you have spoken so fondly of your cats in the past so can appreciate how awful this must be for you both. Stephen, because Millie was found at the side of the road the chances are she wouldn't have suffered.

Thinking of you mate.

Hi Stephen
you have my deepest sincere sympathy, we lost our much loved cat, Sable, to cancer last Saturday she was with us for very nearly 15 years, so I know how hard this is for you
all you can do is remember how much happiness Millie brought to you

So sorry to hear your sad news, Stephen. When our dog died we both said never again to having a pet as it is like losing a member of the family.

So very sorry Stephen to hear of the loss of your lovely Millie. I can understand how you must feel.

We have always had one or two cats and loved them to bits. Always so upsetting when anything happens to them.

At the moment we have Mollie a 4 year old British Blue . She has a lovely nature and is always very gentle. She is the first cat that we have never let out as when we first had her there was a lot of problems with foxes in the area and several cats had been attacked. Perhaps it is unfair to keep her in but she seems quite content.

Thank you all for your kind words. I still can't believe we are never going to see her again. She was a real character. always into everything and flying around. Some might say, 'what's all the fuss about' she was only a cat. But she was not just a pet to us, she was more than that, allot more, as is Monty.

It's been real hard this morning with having to make a couple of phone calls about her, I just can't help welling up. Stupid I know.

Below is a link to a couple of photos of MIllie. As a kitten and the last photo of her the day before....! She would often nestle down into one of my slippers.

I feel for you, I really do. Our little girls are long gone, but I still catch a glimpse of them from the corner of my eye. It upsets me every time it happens.

Stephen and DK.
All pet owners will know that they become part of your family but also that they are a very big part of your everyday life.
Over the years I have had both cats and dogs but on losing our last one I decided I couldn't go through the hurt again.

Stephen, losing Millie in the way you did is hard as I am sure you will be churning over how it happened and if things could have been any different.

DK, Sable was obviously very poorly but it doesn't make any difference. You will have done everything to make her comfortable but the loss is still there. I am sure your other animals are also missing her.

Your sadness will shortly go and you will remember them for the funny things they did.

Having lost two dogs, I feel for you Stephen and you Darknight, it is like losing a family member and loyal friend all rolled into one.
When we lost Chelsea our Cavalier King Charles of nearly 15 years, me and Popeye both cried our eyes out and when we lost
Zak the Doberman who we inherited when Popeye's mum died we did the same.

Like others have said remember the good times but also that Millie and Sable had loving owners who looked after them.

NO IT IS NOT STUPID. If you need to cry over it, mate, do so with abandon. It's a small part of the healing process from a painful event.

All good wishes to you and yours at this difficult time.

That's terrible news, Stephen, so sorry to hear it; I know how much both cats meant to you. I remember how kind you were when we lost Mori almost exactly 2 years ago so, like everyone else who has taken the trouble to post, I am thinking of you

I entirely agree with Alan (SS). We have lost 6 Affies, each one of them with their own character. It will take some while for you to come to terms with your loss, but just look at your lovely photo of her in your Slippers, it's beautiful.

I see one of our Affies every time I log on - Jacob, the most affectionate soul ever.

Take care.

Dear little black and white Millie. Pretty pictures. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Like Jean we have loved and lost 6 pets and have only Murrie, who is 11, with us now. Only one of the six died on the road, the others lived to be old cats for whom we had to make the hardest decision. DK .. very sorry you have lost your Sable too. Judith

Isn't that strange, Jonty, how sometimes we spot one of them for a fleeting moment. I think it means we have never forgotten them. J

So sorry Stephen. A loved pet is part of the family and their loss is very hard. Your dear girl was so very young but I hope you can focus on all the happy times she had with you. Many of us know exactly how you're feeling x
