Re: Another Sad Day
Life is sh*t
There was a cream and black cat that has been around for some time now, two or three years at least. It was obviously a stray as it looked scruffy and hadn't been neutered. Recently I have been feeding it cat biscuits and gradually getting it's confidence to the point where I did manage to pick it up once, never allowing it into the house of course, not with then our two lovelies. And all on the quiet, not letting our other two cats (at the time) see me.
More and more it would hang around sitting out front or by the back door playing on my heart strings. So this morning we/I decided we would take it to the vet and get it checked over. Sure enough it was confirmed as a stray and had no micro chip. The vet and receptionist were brilliant, they arranged with the local cats protection league to fund him to be neutered, blood tests and a general MOT.
Then the bomb dropped. We had a phone call from the vet early afternoon saying that he had been neutered and was still under sedation but the blood tests had come back as him having feline aids (not contagious to humans). So the long shot was, to be fair to any other cats and to the poor cat himself which we named 'Smudge' I agreed it was kindest to have in put to sleep. As you can imagine it was a bitter blow.
He had obviously had such a hard life and I just wanted to give him a bit of leg up and get him feeling better and taking more care of himself. But sadly it wasn't to be.
Life just isn't fair sometimes.

Oh poor Smudge. I used to volunteer for the Blue Cross in the cattery and sadly so many stray cats were found to have this horrible disease.
Nice for Smudge that towards the end he was fed and treated with kindness and he no longer has to suffer, but more sadness for you

Better for him to go like that Stephen, than to linger on as a stray suffering and hungry. The boy done good!! - You old softie!

Re: Another Sad Day
Although it didn't have the ending you would have liked you can content yourself with the knowledge that you did your best for him and offered him food and compassion. Life does not always turn out for the better but better that he had a peaceful end rather than to continue as he was and whatever lay in store for him.
It's not easy though, Stephen.
Now tell your cats to leave my birds alone!!

You're absolutely right Foxy.
It seems like it never rains when it pours just lately (scuse the pun)
Never mind. The good lady and I are off this weekend with her sister and husband for a two night jolly at the Four Pillars hotel Oxford, which can't come soon enough.

Re: Another Sad Day
I just read about Smudge. How very sad for him and for you.
I wish you and Mrs S a pleasant weekend. Monty will be waiting for you when you get home. Judith

Re: Another Sad Day
Thanks Judith
Monty is going into the cattery for a couple of nights, so our names will be mud when he comes home.
At least we'll know he is safe and secure.
Looking forward to the weekend. The girls will be doing their own thing while us boys will be on a Weber BBQ course.
