DO YOU CLEAN YOUR CAR YOURSELF?

Unread post by Admiral of the Humber »

Dear Forumeers,

Mundane topic of the year. I was driving out of Huddersfield this afternoon and passed three hand car washes, all within a couple of hundred yards, all doing decent business.

These car washes are everywhere now but I still clean my car myself, usually every weekend...but how many of you guys do?

Regards
Rob aka Car washer of the Humber

No  I take it to one of these hand wash places only costs a fiver and if I want the inside done as well a tenner, not worth getting the bucket out

I always do and always have done. Only on the odd occasion have I gone through a car wash. If it's really cold I might give the shammy a miss but washing it myself gives me a chance to spot any paint chips or spots of tar which may have appeared since the last wash. I must say it doesn't get washed every week, just when it looks dirty.

Never wash the car myself these days, always take it to a local garage, where they have team of at least 12 cleaners, mostly Bosnians, they do a great job. Car thoroughly washed and waxed, carpets inside and boot hoovered. Dash board and doors inside cleaned, Windows cleaned inside and out, wheels cleaned and tyres blackened and a free air freshener , cost me a tenner, well worth it.

They have a queue nearly all day long, 7 days per week.

Council made them take it down

Well if I'd have known you were nearby you could have popped in for a coffee :D

No I don't do it myself & R doesn't do it either, I take mine to a local hand car wash where they do an excellent job for £5 :D

When I get a new car, I tend to wash it myself for 2 or 3 months. Then the novelty wears off (especially with this car for which I need a step-stool), and it goes into a car wash - either hand-job or petrol station drive-though. Usually choose the drive-through as it's cheaper (though I do claim it back from work).

I initially thought that there was less chance of scratches with a hand-job, but that depends on how often they change their water etc. I got some small scratches from a hand wash (dirty sponge I guess), so decided I'd risk the drive-through again.

Good grief ' NO ' ...

In Rural Dorset cleaning a car between October and March is utterly pointless so it gets a quick power wash from time to time to clean off the excess cow poo and / or mud.

In the summer when it's warmer I let Mobietta do it ;)
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Why get wet and cold when someone else can?

Always use the local hand car wash, the chaps do a brilliant job.

Same here, why do it yourself, when there's a perfectly good husband to do it for you.

But, I do all his ironing, so it's a two way street

I hardly bother cleaning it at all to be honest...I just have an old car these days. My wife has a nicer one & she takes it to a car wash if I don't do it.

My husband does it mostly, but I do sometimes. Would never take it to a car wash. What a waste of money.

Lioness, I always take advantage of a cheap offer at the car-wash. I don't consider a couple of quid a waste of money compared to a half-hour (minimum) of my own time.

Then again, I could get Wina to wash it at the week-end....

Never seen a car wash that's £2 - normally at least £4.

Check out the IMO "brushless" car-washes. Our local one is £1.99 for a basic wash, though having travelled the country I've noticed that the local price reflects the prosperity of the area and the local competition. You must live in a well-posh area. :D
