Council Tax

Unread post by Susan Watt »

Just received 2014/15 Council tax bill in the post this morning. Pleasantly surprised that it is again frozen. It has been frozen for 4 years now.

I'd be even more pleasantly surprised if they reduced it ;)

I seem to be against the majority view on this topic.

I personally think that there should be a small increase in council tax next year, at roughly the level of today's inflation.

It's far too high already, it should be halved.

I don't know if South Glos are increasing the actual council tax per se, but they are going to levy a £36pa charge to empty our green bins, which, in my book, is an increase through the back door. You don't, of course, have to pay it, but you won't get the bin emptied.

You are very lucky to have had your Council Tax frozen for 4 years, ours has gone up each year and like the other OP we have to pay £35 per year for our green bins. Makes you think about recycling.!!!!

We have 3 free collections. Alternate weekly general and recycle with a 2 weekly garden rubbish from April to mid October.

We live in south Wales and our council tax has risen by 5% this year, despite promises of nothing over 4.2%.

Just got our bill for the year this morning.

They've had the audacity to increase it by a £1 a month. That's it, this is getting way out of hand. A £1 this year, £1.25 the next, where's it going to end. Don't they realise these crippling increases are biting into my benefits. How am I supposed to afford my three weeks in the Maldives now.

Me thinks it's time to get the media and my MP involved ;)

Try rubbing in a little warm olive oil - that should do it

I think that one of the problems with the Council Tax is that the local council make a lot of noise about not increasing the tax (which is true) but fail to mention that the County Council increase their bit as does the Parish Council - the net result being that the Council Tax bill goes up

We haven't had ours yet but if Derbyshire County Council run true to form it will probably be an increase of between 4%-5%

I'm confused.com too ...we pay £xx for our Parish Council but not all areas of Derbyshire pay it, it isn't a fortune but do I get anything extra for paying it, I can't say I'm aware I do

I suspect that most of the cost for the Parish Council is to pay the Parish Clerk (a job which in my opinion should be voluntary)

I tend not to read how the cost is broken down just look at the amount ( no choice we have to pay it  ) but I shall take note when this years arrives.
