Sue fancies Shacalacaboomboom in the National and has put £10 on it to win.....oh dear! I think that is our first ever flutter on horses, although she loves all horses and Ch4 racing when she gets chance to watch it.
Hi Frank,

Boom Boom aint without a chance but stable jockey has plumped for Triolo D Alene. However Shaka is well weighted and sure to give your wife a good run for her money....indeed it will more than likely get further round than the donkey l have backed.

Out of the 30 runners that competed over the National fences yesterday there were no fallers.

What about Teaforthree trained in Pembrokeshire Keefy - he was on tv this morning on the Welsh news - what's his chances - is he worth a bet? Another one I fancy is Mike Tindall's horse Monbeg Dude - he won the Welsh National last year didn't he?

Hi Janis,

Both of your selections have first rate chances, indeed l wouldn't be surprised to see them go off first and second favourite. Monbeg Dude is a good jumper and stays all day as he proved when winning the Welsh National.

To be honest l have never seen a more open National and no number of horses are more than capable of winning it.

This isn't a race to be putting your blouse on but the two you have selected are sure to be there at the finish given a clear round.

You just can't get the staff these days

OK change of plan.

1st Choice Double 7 for my main bet.

2nd Choice Vintage Star - which I will put a tenner to win on and if it romps home will be a nice little earner :D

As I'm just about to save myself £250 on my car insurance renewal a tenner is neither here nor there, where do some of these insurance companies come up with their quotes from !!!

Hi RB,

Another couple of runners with excellent chances in what is a very open race. Prince de Beauchene is trained like my tentitive selection " Vesper Bell" by top Irish trainer W Mullins so that gives your horse every chance in my book. Your other selection "long Run" has "class" and would pick up most of tne other runners and still win if it were a none handicap race.

Well my money is down and l'll be hoping either Burton Port or Vesper Bell, can bring home the bacon, Incedentaly Vesper Bell is now riden by top lady rider Katie Walsh who can be the first ever Lady jockey to win the Grand National......my gawd l've just seen a pig fly past my window

Whatever happens keep smiling.

Regards

Keith

What a worthy winner though Keith!! They never looked like catching him two from home, but some horses were very unlucky.

Some of our other sportsmen could learn a bit about sportsmanship from the jockeys. A P,, and Richard johnson straight in to congratulate Leighton. With Sue coming from Leighton Buzzard, she should have backed that one instead of poor old Shacalaca...

Congratulations to anyone who managed to find the winner and commiserations to those of us who didnt fair so well.

As for my selections....Burton Port got rid of his Jocky at the second and Vesper Bell was given a great ride by Katie Walsh to finish a very creditably 13th.

 PINEAU DE RE 25/1

 BALTHAZAR KING 14/1

DOUBLE SEVEN 10/1

ALVARADO 33/1

ROCKY CREEK 16/1.

My OH had the winner in a sweepstake. He didn't rate the form so didn't put any money on it. A worthy winner and what nice genuine people the owner and trainer appeared to be.

Bad luck Jo, but a good bet, because A.P. is a great rider.

Hi Frank,

As you say Frank a race full of hard luck stories, many "if onlys" and no doubt tears of joy.

Congratulation to all the conections, the horse, and the Jockeys who are a credit to their profession.

I had Across the Bay down for a win (only because we are doing a cross bay walk in aid of charity!!) and all was going well until it had a bit of a satnav malfunction and headed off to the rails. Just a good job I didn't have money on it.

It's just a bit of fun Frank, we do the races a few times a year and I never expect to win so if/when I do it's a bonus, I lose more than I win though so it's a good job I don't take it too seriously

Foxy, is that the walk across Morecambe Bay by any chance, if it is it is really good we've done it a few times for various charities.

It is DQ. We have done it a couple of times and it is indeed a lovely walk. Add to that the company of Cedric Robinson (Queen's Guide) it makes for a good day out although I don't know for how much longer he can do it as he's now knocking on a bit!! He does have some fascinating tales to tell.

I thought I'd read somewhere that Cedric had retired, obviously not, yes he is a really interesting man and very nice.

I think I surprised everyone when we have done the walks .. I don't really do walking  and they all expected me to climb on the 'tractor' half way across, well I proved them all wrong and even waded through water up to my waist not to mention being covered in mud ... I don't do getting messed up either

Have you ever felt the quicksand .. I have, it's a very weird experience.

He has been talking about retirement for quite a number of years but as faras Iam aware he will be leading the walks again this year. I'm amazed how many people turn out for them. Moses would have been proud of him.
Whilst it is entirely safe, if you stop to let the others catch up and paddle your feet around it soon gets soft and rather jelly-like. When you crossed the channels did you feel the dabs (flounder) under your feet?

Sorry, Onelife, we have digressed........................ Hope the mods don't notice!!!
