Hi Jo,

The 'powers' that be have decided that we won't be doing the lights which I had hoped for - and there you have it.

I went along to a garden centre full of little plans for a relatively down-beat idea for lights outside (which would have been in the garden at the back), and also I was hoping to acquire a nice little item for the lounge - but went home empty handed.

So, I did try, and will try again next year - and hopefully by then the current popular excuse will have evaporated a bit.

I would have liked a nice little 'tableau' of illumated animals (maybe a polar bear or two and a reindeer or something - but all in scale) outside in the garden, and I would have loved a little illumated 'festive village' miniature porcelain building for the lounge - but it's just not going to happen for 2014.

Now where's that mistletoe???

Hi Sue,

It's called 'being considerate' - I'm not the only person in this house, and I always take into consideration the views and feelings of others.

For example, I recently had guests staying, and I knew that they had a dislike for a particular colour which happened to be the accessory colour for one bathroom - so I changed it all just for their visit. Once they had gone, it was changed back to how I like it.

So - the opportunity for acquiring the little outdoor bits and pieces and the other indoor items has been and gone. I've moved on - but it wouldn't have been overdone, anyway - just enough and no more.

Good grief, Em, I certainly wouldn't chnge the decor of a room for visitors, just because they didn't like the colour. Couldn't they have used a different room if they were so adament they couldn't tolerate it? Though I am sure they were more interested in your company than the decor in the bathroom.

Hi Gill,

It's just something I've always done; and I don't give it a second thought now. I have a good idea of what our guests like, and it encompasses diet, entertainment and things like favourite colours and toiletries.

So, do you change things like blinds, ceramics and artwork? Or just bath linens?

Crimey me. I think I must live in a different world.

My home doesn't have a choice of rooms or bathrooms but it does have a colour theme running through it.

I like to think visitors come to see me and not the colour scheme .

One thing my friends know is that it will be very Christmassy in a few weeks time and they are welcome to drop by anytime.

it reminds me of a story I read about a conversation overheard at the school gate:
Mummy: Anyone want a started bar of soap and some coloured loo rolls? - we've redecorated and they don't match the new colour scheme!

Well, I will admit to choosing the liquid soap to colour match  but we only ever have white loo roll.

That's a shame ..I thought the lights and reindeer were going to be for your granddaughter.

I do consider my OH.. in my house ;) .......I always give him notice ( put it in the planner) when I want the decs down out of the loft..as there are two staircases to go up...
I always make sure that we borrow next doors long ladder for the weekend...
Always make sure I have lots of drawing pins....
Then I make sure his Santa hat and undies are ready for him to wear. ( family tradition)
Christmas tunes ready to play...and fizzy stuff cooling for when he is finished(2-3 days later)

I don't do "just enough"....it's totally OTT!!!
Very very Christmassy..the grandchildren love it!!!
Kids don't do enough either....lolol
Enjoy your last Christmas with just enough.... :D

Hi Gill,

Not quite that frutty to change blinds! Blinds and ceramics are things that would work with any colour scheme - so it's linens, some art work, candles, toiletries and bath mats etc.

However, I have one item which I always squirrel away out of sight and harm - I just couldn't risk it being damaged.

-------------------

Changing back to the topic of this thread, I've just been out and seen something which himself might just have weakened to - so I'll just happen to be out again tomorrow and see if it comes home! Fingers crossed.

Yes, I'll be there with you in spirit, Sue.

I am quite excited because we have just booked QV for her pre Christmas 10 day voyage on December 7th, so she should be all dressed for the festivities. We had considered doing the Christmas trip, but mum is terribly frail now and this may well be her last Christmas, so I couldn't NOT have her here. There'll be other Christmas cruises I'm sure. I do hope Cunard decorative teams are up to my standards!!! :D :D :D

Well, I have taken down all the decs apart from the three trees, and they will be removed tomorrow. Yes it looks bare - nice and minimalist - but lovely to be able to dust properly again!

All over for another year then.

Thank goodness there is another person like me who removes the decorations early - and I felt just like you Gill, it was lovely to be able to hoover and dust without knocking all the cards over or knocking decorations off the trees.

As far as I am concerned Christmas is over. It is nice to get back to normality and to start eating sensibly - now where is Keefy Onelife when you need him.

Maureen.

Yes, once again, despite vowing that I wouldn't, I bought FAR too much naughty stuff and have managed to gain a 5lbs with our December cruise AND Christmas. Back to normal eating now and they will soon disappear - I have a wedding to look good for, so they HAVE to go!!!

I'm with you Gill.

Some decorations have already been taken down but, having had a lazy day watching all I missed that was worth watching over Christmas, tomorrow all the lights and trees will be stored away. I can't abide then being up for very long after Christmas.

Me too. Ours are only still up because my mum is staying with us. She's going tomorrow, and so are the decorations!!

As far as Christmas TV was concerned, the only things I felt were worth watching we already had on DVD...
