Re: Frequent login request
Today I have been doing some investigating.
I have been running speed tests on the site during the day and there is no problem with the speed of accessing the board.
One common denominator with those who are having speed issues is that you are using the Chrome browser - this is not the problem as there are others also using Chrome who are not having any speed issues. In fact when I accesses the site with Chrome it was actually quicker than when I use Firefox, but that may be more to do with the number of add-ons that I have with Firefox.
This brings me to the conclusion that there is something on the local PC that is slowing this site down such as some Internet security program or possibly router configuration.
Sorry but I cannot be of any more help without knowing what is on everyone's PC and how it is configured.

They could try turning off their Internet Security software / facility to see if that helps

I am assuming that is said tongue in cheek, but that is the worst possible advice to people that are not computer literate and may think that you are serious.Manoverboard wrote: 09 Feb 2022, 08:03They could try turning off their Internet Security software / facility to see if that helps![]()
If it is any help I have run checks on
- Chrome (fully loaded with extensions) - consistently very slow
- Chrome incognito mode - consistently very slow
In all the following it was a bit mixed. Once a page was cached (loaded for the first time it remained very quick, but the first load was very slow)
- Edge (no extensions)
- Edge incognito mode
- Brave (no extensions)
- Brave incognito mode
I should add that my computer is not the best example to use since, due to the nature of my work and company policy, there is a lot of security and protection software running on it.

Re: Frequent login request
If they are not savvy then they shouldn't do it but turning it off just to run a test on this site and then turning it back on again is not an issue as far as I am concerned.Kendhni wrote: 09 Feb 2022, 08:26I am assuming that is said tongue in cheek, but that is the worst possible advice to people that are not computer literate and may think that you are serious.Manoverboard wrote: 09 Feb 2022, 08:03They could try turning off their Internet Security software / facility to see if that helps![]()

Re: Frequent login request
Another question that I would ask is ... " Is the site slow because you are using it as soon as the device switches on or after it has been on for, say, half an hour ? "

My phone is never off, but I have no speed issues, so maybe that's why.Manoverboard wrote: 09 Feb 2022, 10:19Another question that I would ask is ... " Is the site slow because you are using it as soon as the device switches on or after it has been on for, say, half an hour ? "

Mine is off sometimes and I've never had the speed issue on phone, tablet or PC.

My Apple MacBook (using Safari) is never switched off and I always have the slowness problem. However I don't have the problem on my I-pad (also using Safari).

Hi Barb…it would appear that loading issues using Safari (Macbook) are more common than one would expect.
Might be worth starting at the top and working down the list?

My phone is never off, and my laptop is also on all the time except for weekly or so restarts to clear stuff.Manoverboard wrote: 09 Feb 2022, 10:19Another question that I would ask is ... Re: Frequent login request
Not sure if this helps, but I always use the active topics feature to switch from thread to thread which highlights where unread posts exist, and I use the little arrows to quickly move to the top of the page. I rarely use the main menu to access the site, unless I want to find if an existing thread exists that I might be able to use for a new post I want to make.

Re: Frequent login request
For what it’s worth, I have the slowness issue on both my iPhone and iPad, which are never turned off.
I also have the issue on my PC, which I switch off at the end of the day. But the problem is experienced whenever I use my PC to access the site - CC is not the first site I access, so the computer has usually been on for several hours if I use my PC to access CC.
I have the problem across all devices and browsers, whether on Wi-Fi or 4G, and I do not have the same security software on all devices.
I have no problems on any other website.

Yes like you I use either active posts or unread posts to find topics. I only use the main menu if I wish to post a new topic.towny44 wrote: 10 Feb 2022, 10:13Not sure if this helps, but I always use the active topics feature to switch from thread to thread which highlights where unread posts exist, and I use the little arrows to quickly move to the top of the page. For a New Topic just look at the Topics and click on say ' General Chat '... then you can raise a Topic within that ForumMervyn and Trish wrote: 10 Feb 2022, 11:31Yes like you I use either active posts or unread posts to find topics. I only use the main menu if I wish to post a new topic.
I use BT and have no issues on this site ... yet

Re: Frequent login request
I asked that a few weeks ago, and it didn’t seem to be a common factor. I’m with Virgin, and also experience the same issue when I use data on O2 (although they are now part of Virgin)Kendhni wrote: 10 Feb 2022, 12:18Could it be ISP related

I only have the problem when signed in, if browsing when I’m logged off, it’s all super speedy.

Re: Frequent login request
I use a MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone none of which are switched off unless updating etc which requires a log off. My phone sometimes asks me to log back in to this site but this doesn't happen often and never on the MacBook or the iPad. I go straight to Quick links and click on "new posts" or "unread posts" and use the up and down arrows to quicken access. I use Safari on all my appliances. I just don't have the issues being talked about so it must be so frustrating particularly to David and those who are in how to solve the problems.
