Could it be ISP related
I use Sky and am experiencing the slow reaction times.
I'm with BT

No help there then!!
Plusnet so I'm no help either. It is something specific to this site only.
But oddly only to some people, and others with similar set ups seem to have no issues. A real mystery.

I have a PC, W11, Talk talk, Chrome and have no issues at all. I also had an Apple iPad which was dreadfully slow and thankfully now gone.
It is indeed a mystery.
Do people still use diskcleanup? I was amazed how much rubbish I had managed to gather on a new machine.
I was taught to be cautious

Hi Onelife, Thanks for the link. I have gone through the list and it seems it is assuming that the Mac is running slow all the time but I only have the slowness on this site. I have cleared my history and have also updated Safari. It is strange that I don't have the problem on my iPad and I only have the problem on my MacBook when I am logged into the site. It is very quick if I don't log in. At least I know that I am not the only one having the problem.

Well that buggers up my thought that it may be a DNS issue.

Does anyone else occasionally get the 'My SQL Server has gone away [2006]' error.
I do occasionally - but that is no different to many other sites.
Being honest, this site is the only one that I have seen that message from ... and only over the last month or so.

Both Brave and Edge have been showing the same sort of speed as Chrome, for me, this morning

I take that back, edge has started responding quite quickly ... until I tried submitting this update and then it went back to its old tricks :(

Also got a 2002 (connection refused) from the SQL server again

Trying something else

Had an Edge Update yesterday and if anything speed within this site seems faster

I got my first 2002 from the SQL server about 10 minutes ago. I thought it may have been a time out.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

I got one as well early this morning, David is obviously trying to share out the problems.

If I put the site in myself each time rather than using my saved options I get on to the site quite quickly but then I have to log in if it's the first time I've used the site that day. If it's later the same day I can often get straight in without logging in. However if I click on one of my saved options then it takes ages to get onto the site, sometimes I have to log in but many times I don't. It doesn't matter which way I've got into the site it always takes a considerable time to go from topic to topic. I don't really mind, as long as I can get onto the site, it's ok.

That sounds like a browser/cookie problem

For what it's worth, I use chrome on an all-in-one desktop and the site takes considerably longer to load than any other as well as being slow to move between topics. It has been like that for a month or so, but has not changed my life :relaxed: . I use the waiting time to reflect on life and the universe, or just do something else.

Well that's ironic. Never having had the slow problem I was just reading this topic and when I tried to go back to "Unread Topics" it froze completely! Once I closed and reopened the tab all restored. That's Edge on Windows 10 on my PC.

Assuming David has done nothing, I got a new version of Chrome installed this evening and the site is fairly zipping along again.

I didn't think so, maybe something to do with Windows itself (since it affects multiple browsers) or a rogue update to the chromium core

I've only just cleared all the cookies and it hasn't made any difference. Had to log in again today and the site is still slow to load.

Hi Carol, from an earlier message I see you are using Chrome. Try grabbing the latest Chrome update. It should be version 98.0.4758.82 or higher.
As soon as this installed on my machine this site returned to normal.

Hmmm. I notice I have also had a recent Windows update 2022-02 Cumulative update for Windows 10 version 21H2 for x64 (KB5010342).

Those are the only 2 things that have changed on my system over the last couple of days ... plus I ran WSE (Wise disk cleaner ... but I do that regularly anyway).

Wait a minute ... just remembered, I did one other thing I stopped system restore and cleared out its files.
Due to my backup process I don't need system restore but others may, so I can't advise you to turn this off.

I log in and out every time I use the site, never had a problem.
I assume the problem is with never actually logging out at the end. Other than that, don't understand the problems you all have.
Don't worry, be happy
