Think about it, this is all part of the "master plan". There are, unfortunately, many around the world dying from CV-19 so a lack of condoms will rebalance the population.

I am sure cynical doomsayers and far right sycophants will disagree, but having seen members of the cabinet performing in this covid 19 crisis, I am impressed by Matt Hancock.
I am also very disappointed with many parts of the Media, more interested in scoring political points rather than in emphasising the health messages.

I agree about Matt Hancock. We've stopped watching or reading the media interpretation and just watch the daily press conference to get it first hand and untwisted.

No doubt after the event and when we have the inquest all the armchair "experts" and opposing political parties will, with that exact science called hindsight, criticise everything that the Government has done.

This Government is going on the advice of the experts and does not have the time to verify every bit of information - unlike a certain Mr Blair who did have the time to verify what his experts were telling him!

100% agree with you! Have been utterly disgusted by the the performance of the media throughout this crisis. Every friend and acquaintance spoken with has given the government total support of their handling of this dire situation. The viewer has to tolerate the likes of Laura Kuensberg self promoting. The country needs positivity in a situation beyond the control of all including experts.

Apart from the grim reporting techniques of Kuennsberg and Peston I am becoming increasingly irritated by some of the inane questions they put to the MPs, questions which are impossible to answer. Much of the time they are looking to later expose failure solely for the benefit of their own bloated egos.
I naively believe they should be gathering information and reporting news.
I was taught to be cautious

Peston drives me mad. He has plenty of time to prepare, but always manages to sound as though he is making it up as he goes along. Perhaps he thinks it makes him look intelligent. I still think the virus has been circulating in the UK for quite a while. The reason no one spotted is that the Chinese were up to their usual tricks of suppressing information and any symptoms here after Christmas were being attributed to ordinary flu or a bad cold. Hence the apparent lack of preparation and the media trying to score points by being wise after the event.

We watched the ITV news tonight but only from about 10:07 so must have missed Peston, however their coverage is much less strident than that of the BBC. They give a much fairer account of things, with a more sympathetic slant on the difficulties the govt and PHE are facing and overcoming.
As we are normally watching a recorded programme, it depends what channels have been currently recording as to what pops up when we press back up, I must try to remember to switch over if its BBC that pops up in future.

PS No need to respond Merv, I know your views.

Really?

This government’s handling has been confused and ineffective. Far too late to take action and totally unprepared. Badly advised too. The same people who mishandled the salmonella scare, the foot & mouth epidemic and the CJD debacle.

Q.B. The government has taken advice and the impression given is that the virus could not be prevented, therefore it was allowed to develop to a point where the management of it came into play. Trying, as we are oft told, to flatten the peak saving life’s by doing so.

My o.p. was more about the despicable behaviour of the media.

Take care yo’all.

Agree Foxy. I heard one reporter, can't remember who, ask how long the outbreak is going to last. That's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string. Idiots

As for the governments handling I think they are doing the best they can.

Meanwhile there is considerable disgruntlement in these parts regarding the number of visitors arriving for the Easter break. It certainly is reflected in supermarket stock which was decimated two weeks ago, was just about back to normal, however now we are back to sparse at best.

Fortunately wine delivery arrived this week. A few cases of a delicious Malbec should keep us going.

Cheers!

Any thoughts on the new Labour leadership - Sir Keir Starmer as leader and Angela Rayner as new deputy leader?

From what has been said so far it sounds, to me, like more of the same old same!

Interesting that he was the only man standing, I accept that the women standing did not really offer much competition, but clearly the Labour party is still a misogynistic organisation, despite its large number of female MPs.
I will wait until he announces his shadow cabinet before I consider whether he is moving away from the hard left momentum approach to politics.
