Re: Sexism on TV
Long past that Stephen.
I know I only look very young but I got come pills today for what appear to be the after effects of Shingles and the instructions include a paragraph headed "For the elderly (over 65)".
Almost made me take out a Co-op Funeral Plan.

A Man after my own heart. Chocolate cake, chocolate steamed pudding with chocolate sauce and Ice cream, and chocolate biscuits.............what a blissful thought. Sue puts whipped cream and black cherries between the layers of her chocolate cake; what more could a man want at my age!Gill W wrote:Well, believe it or not, I'm keeping out of the way of my husband, he's making a chocolate cake at the moment!Stephen wrote:Gill

How about a bottle of Merlot to wash it down? (other wines are available)

Re: Sexism on TV
It's not just TV but films as well - you rarely see a naked bloke full frontal (unless you're watching Games of Thrones) but many programmes have a naked girl, often full frontal. I'd rather see neither, but the fact that it's mostly girls who are portraited in this way strikes me as being exploitation and, therefore, a form of sexism.

Re: Sexism on TV
You are right, and it can be embarassing if you happen to be watching it and your Mother in Law is present. Lets face it, when you've seen one you've seen them all and what's the point of it? People and their personalities are much more interesting. I have never understood the attraction of porn, or of ladies who are fabulous actresses like Kate Winslet who seems to be in rather a lot of them (Titanic, Jude, The Reader.). She was much better in Enigma where she played a straight laced girl and didn't show more than her face and hands.Silver_Shiney wrote:It's not just TV but films as well - you rarely see a naked bloke full frontal (unless you're watching Games of Thrones) but many programmes have a naked girl, often full frontal. Re: Sexism on TV
I once went to see a production of Alan Ayckbourn's "Way Upstream" with my late Stepmother, who could sometimes be a little prim. So I was horrified when, at the end, the two main characters, a man and a woman, stripped naked, stood up as they shed their final garment, and jumped into the aforementioned stream.
My only hope of mitigation was that the lights went out within a nanosecond of the pants being dropped.
There was silence for a moment before SM said "Well!"
Now I'm in for it, I thought.
Then she continued. "He didn't have much, did he?"

Re: Sexism on TV
Yes sometimes our supposedly prim elders surprise us. I loved my M.I.L. very much, she was a kind and humorous lady. One day we were all sitting around the lunch table including even primmer F.I.L. and she was regaling us with a story about a TV Programme exploring body piercings, she suddenly said, "...and one man revealed a silver stud in the end of his p***s". The sound of stifled smirks and similar resulting noises were worthy of a pig stye.
Some of the worst sexism has been reserved for female football pundits and programme anchors. Many years ago when I supported Luton Town regularly there were several ladies in the crowd near our seats, who knew the game, and could tell everyone and especially the referee, points of order about offsides etc. Often in clear and loud tones.

Re: Sexism on TV
In my humble opinion it has gone far to far the way of women,
Newspapers are now no more than womens magazines,
Far more female presenters than male,
Far more women dedicated programs than male,
and they still expect to have doors opened and seats given up for them,
Every policeman seems to be a policewomen ect !!!

As one well known commentator put it.
Women are just sex objects.....................
.........every time you mention sex, they object.
