Re: Changes to passport renewal
I renewed both of ours back at the beginning of May (the month, not that useless ****) and the unused time was added on then. The new ones will expire ten years from February 2019. Of course this means that we shall not have more than ten years validity after Brexit Day 29th March next year so we shall not be affected.towny44 wrote: 13 Dec 2018, 16:16Someone over on another forum has said that they recently had their passports renewed and still got the remaining time added to their new passports, maybe you could advise what happens with your Meg?
I have just checked the governement website and since September this year the unused time is no longer being added:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... rexit-deal
"From the beginning of September 2018 extra validity is no longer added to passports and the maximum validity for a new adult UK passport will be 10 years, and for a child passport will be 5 years. We have made this change to follow recommendations set out by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and to help provide clarity about passport validity in the Schengen area in the future."

They forgot to add "and make money".
Surely it would not have offended the ICAO or confused Schengen if they'd refunded unused time in lieu of carrying it over to the new passport.
