No way Moby, as I explained this assurance is absolutely worthless, and can only lead to people thinking they are safe and failing to act vigilantly.Manoverboard wrote: 09 Sep 2020, 10:01If having a test gives them assurance then why not, providing they are paying the £200(?) cost of their tests.

Yes but at £200 a time they would think it through ... either way it sounds like they will do their own thing anyway.towny44 wrote: 09 Sep 2020, 11:55No way Moby, as I explained this assurance is absolutely worthless, and can only lead to people thinking they are safe and failing to act vigilantly.Manoverboard wrote: 09 Sep 2020, 10:01If having a test gives them assurance then why not, providing they are paying the £200(?) cost of their tests.

There is some truth in what you say John and taking it from another angle people (you) saying face masks have little benefit to the wearer does nothing to heighten vigilance…we need to change peoples mind sets, and I know from experience that the wearing of face masks gives you space.towny44 wrote: 09 Sep 2020, 11:55No way Moby, as I explained this assurance is absolutely worthless, and can only lead to people thinking they are safe and failing to act vigilantly.Manoverboard wrote: 09 Sep 2020, 10:01If having a test gives them assurance then why not, providing they are paying the £200(?) cost of their tests.
I think face covering should be compulsory indoors and out.

towny44 wrote: 09 Sep 2020, 09:52I also note that Matt Hancock commented that one of the major reasons for the current delays in Covid testing, is due to to far too many non symptomatic people requesting a test, in some cases because they are about to go on holiday and want to know if they are virus free.
This is one of the major problems arising from the testing system, that people seem to crave the extra security of knowing they are virus free, whereas all a test does is say that at this moment in time you are not infected. It doesn't say you are definitely not incubating the virus, and certainly does not say you are safer to socialise than you were yesterday, nor does it say you won't become infected tomorrow.
The only way to try and avoid becoming infected, is to maintain social distancing at all times, hand-wash regularly, especially while away from your own home, and avoid at all costs getting too close to someone not wearing a mask.
The new, no more than 6 groupings, will have very little impact on us, or indeed our immediate family, although I have to admit one of my wife's family groupings, is guilty of having tests without any symptoms, and I will be making my displeasure known to them.
Agree John. But that means everyone, the young included. Until everyone grasps that concept we will be fighting a losing battle.

I was appalled at the number of people I've heard on the radio today who still believe this is no worse than flu and is being hyped by the media.

I was even more horrified by someone on the radio this afternoon who said we all have to die one day and why waste money on the over 85s who get coronavirus.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 09 Sep 2020, 17:40I was appalled at the number of people I've heard on the radio today who still believe this is no worse than flu and is being hyped by the media.

Re: Current Affairs
So today the idiots are asking "if it's unsafe to meet more than 6 people at home why is it okay to go to work or school?"
My answer is "If you don't go to work the economy crashes and you expect me to pay you to sit on your a*se at home, if your kids don't go to school they'll end up as thick as you. Compared with which not getting pissed with more than 6 mates is a minor inconvenience".
I rest my case.

Make the effort now or possibly end up upon a ventilator.

Re: Current Affairs
We have heard today about two confirmed cases of Covid in a care home in Torrington.
Both cases are staff.
One of them had gone to see family in Birmingham.
That’s the first confirmed cases to our knowledge and here is hoping that they haven’t been socialising too much.
We have our first visit to mum tomorrow in Exeter.
Hopefully it won’t be our last if they go back to full lockdown.

Re: Current Affairs
Well, the first visit since March completed and our worst fears came to fruition.
Only Mrs B allowed in.
On arrival, taken to the garden area where they bought mum out to.
Unfortunately she didn’t have a clue who her daughter was.
Mrs B even lifted her mask so mum could see her face but still no joy.
She only stayed about 25 mins because it was impossible to have a conversation.
As she left she said , I love you mum and she replied, that’s nice dear.
We came away absolutely broken.
That’s now the end of our relationship as we knew it.
I think we’ll leave it a few weeks before going down again.
Truly heartbreaking but we have to accept it is what it is.
