We had a border collie for 15 years.

There is no other dog like them.
It's not until you've had one that you know how special they are.

Hi allatc,

I can’t think of a more apt sentence in describing what it is like to have a collie as a loyal pet, it is no wonder they are described as being the most intelligent of all dogs, and I’m sure having had one for fifteen years you will no doubt vouch for this.

We’ve had six collies over the years, four of which were agility dogs, the other two I describe as fun trick dogs.

The last of which is our present dog “Liliy” who, it has to be said, has been the most difficult to train of all our dogs…there was a point where I did think about giving up on her as she displayed traits that I wouldn’t normally have put up with in any dog…thankfully we persevered in trying to get our heads around hers and look for answers which thankfully we have succeeded in doing, the result of which is that she has now turned into the most friendly and intelligent collie we have ever owned… whilst accepting she will always be her own dog.

I have over the years been praised for how obedient our dogs have been, and on occasions have been asked if collies make good pets, to which I always answer, “yes, in the right hands, but a bloody nightmare in the wrong hands”. As with all dogs you get back what you put in, but with a collie this couldn’t be truer, and a necessity if you don’t want to end up with a possible nightmare.

P.s Lily only puts her tongue out when I mention Stephen

That’s not the first time I’ve been called a bit of a flop…you’d think my wife could have been a bit more understanding considering my age
