Weird and wonderful cures
On Oceana this week, one of the waiters suggested a couple of "cures" for bad throats and seasickness, and it made me think if there were any other non pharmacutical remedies out there that people use for minor ailments.

Re: Weird and wonderful cures
The two suggested to me were:
When I lost my voice I was told to drink hot rather than cold water for a day, apparently this is a technique used in India. I tried it, and it seemed to help, although I do now have a full blown cold.
The other one was for seasickness. The suggestion of eating a dry roll made sense, but I'm not sure if spreading it with butter and sugar is actually a cure, or he was having me on, I did try it though!

The one I came across for sea sickness was to suck half a lemon or lime.
When I questioned the captain of the boat about this he said the problem with seasickness is that it is all in the mind ... if you start to feel sick then that is all yoour body focuses on and it makes you feel sicker. The lemon itself did nothing apart from distract your mind and usually caused those around you to laugh as you made faces sucking the lemon. it certainly worked for julie.

Re: Weird and wonderful cures
i suffered from cluster headaches and i was told by the doctor that when the pain was at its most severe to pinch between my thumb
and finger as hard as i could this would help and like Ken said it distracts the mind.
Another recent tip was that if you have a cold put vic on the sole of your feet before you go to bed.

Another tip for sea sickness that our table companions told us about was to eat an apple - but it had to be a green one

...but I bet Celebrity and/or RCI are working on that.
Anyhow the practical side of this one reminds me of my father's maxim for never hitting your thumb with a hammer.......... Hold the hammer with both hands!
