Bumper crop,

Unread post by Onelife »

At this time of the year my Apple, Pear, and Plum trees are normally plagued with fruit eating insects, so much so that I use fruit bags to protect about a third of them. This season the remaining fruits have hardly been touched by wasps, etc which is good news in one respect but worrying in another…. where have the little blighters gone? Are farmers spraying too much?

Not a bad first crop on our grafted duel fruit tree either. A good display of Brambly’s yet only three Braeburn. Prefer the Bramly’s anyway.

Better luck next year.

I've had a plum tree for the past 6/7 years which has plenty of blossom but no fruit so this year it's coming out.

Oddly enough I haven't seen any wasps either.

They’ve gone along with the Swallows and Swifts.!

It’s a mystery.

Get it a companion of a similar variety and you'll have plums next year…it’s clearly not as self-fertile as you Foxy. ;) :)

I think the decline in insects must be a contributing factor but as they over-winter in Africa and more eastern countries how would they know?

I did read something about fewer wasps this year. I blame Starmer. Never happened under Boris.

My next door neighbour has plum trees so mine is either unsociable or gay!!! Anyway it has now had the Sycamore Gap treatment and roots will be coming out later.
