Five Years On ...

Unread post by david63 »

Today Sunday 9th March is "A day of reflection" being five years since the "official" start of Covid in this country. In some ways it seems like a lifetime ago and in others like it was only last week.

Sadly there are many still recovering from the pandemic.

I was talking about this to some friends yesterday. We said that it seems unbelievable what we did, all the seeing no friends or family, empty roads, not going anywhere apart from the allowed time to have a walk each day. someone said that they'd heard a radio discussion on the rules we obeyed and they seemed to agree that if, heavens forbid, that there were to be another Pandemic that people would not be quite so obedient complying with another lockdown.

The question is, would we be prepared for another pandemic, I doubt it.
We never seem to learn from the annual winter flue and other viruses that hit us every year and overwhelm our hospitals, so what chance would we have with another pandemic.

Hopefully better than last time as some lessons will have learnt but the big problem, unlike winter flu, is that we will not know the nature of the next pandemic in advance so the same thing will apply that you cannot prepare for the unknown.

Which there will be, but hopefully not our lifetime
