Covid Jab?
Unless you have a weakened immune system or other underling health issue those under 75 won’t be getting the NHS covid jab this year …. I’ve never had covid neither do I want to get it so I’ll be forking out to get one done privately…surely the way to go?

Re: Covid Jab?
Never had more than a sore arm, and sometimes no reaction at all. So I will be taking advantage of the free jab.

Re: Covid Jab?
We're old and crumbly enough to get it free still. We've had Covid twice and didn't die or even get very unwell, thanks we assume to the jab, which doesn't affect us badly. So I think we'd pay if we had to.

I always take advantage of having the Flu and Covid jabs , worth it if it help to lesson the effects if you do succumb. Never had a reaction, you don't even feel the injection , but you may do if you are a wuss.

Whatever the NHS recommend I go along with - after all they are the ones with all the information.

Re: Covid Jab?
Stopped having the Covid jabs in 2023 and regarding flu vaccinations, have never had one
In 2022, there were reports of a small number of over-65s being given the wrong flu vaccine, specifically the QIVe vaccine, which is not recommended for that age group.
NHS England stated that the issue was largely due to data problems .....just thought I'd mention it

Thanks for your concern Pompey, but I do ask if it's the semi skimmed jab, our chemist is very good that way.Portsmouth wrote: 04 Aug 2025, 17:58Stopped having the Covid jabs in 2023 and regarding flu vaccinations, have never had one

Just out of curiosity, are you of an age to get a jab or do you still have young blood.

Someone will have got their knuckles rapped for that mistake Pompey... but as far as vaccines are concerned, and having reached 72 today, every year extra I can squeeze out with the help of a vaccine is a win, win for me.Portsmouth wrote: 04 Aug 2025, 17:58Stopped having the Covid jabs in 2023 and regarding flu vaccinations, have never had one

Now Keefie and I disagree on some less important topics but on the issue of ensuring survival we are in perfect harmony.

Re: Covid Jab?
I too am in complete agreement with Onelife and Merv regarding vaccinations etc. Whilst there are a few issues with vaccines every year, they pale into total insignificance when compared with the benefits that vaccination provides the vast majority of the population.
Incidentally those refusing vaccines do present a big risk to the general public, by leaving themselves more prone to the diseases that the vaccines would protect against, and enabling the vaccine to spread more readily.

What diseases would they be John. I assumed the Covid vaccine gave some protection against Covid and that was it.

Re: Covid Jab?
If it was still that important to protect the public then wouldn't the government be continuing with Covid boosters for everyone....or maybetowny44 wrote: 04 Aug 2025, 22:25Whilst there are a few issues with vaccines every year, they pale into total insignificance when compared with the benefits that vaccination provides the vast majority of the population.
it's to do with the cost of boosters that puts them off.
Some people get their booster and think think they have protection for a year.......I don't believe that's true.
Booster effectivness wanes over time..I've read that the Covid booster is less effective after 4 months. I think you should be taking it at least twice a year if you need good protection.
Also for winter protection maybe the best time for booster is late September/October

That is what I, and I am sure several others on here are the same, have a booster twice a year and have done since the interval was reduced from four months,Portsmouth wrote: 05 Aug 2025, 10:28I think you should be taking it at least twice a year if you need good protection.

Re: Covid Jab?
I have had two Covid boosters over a 12 month period - one in May this year and one last October 2024. The local health board has informed me I’m eligible for a RSV vaccination - I’ll arrange when I return home from the Lake District next week.

Agree with David and Jan, we have had 2 covid jabs annually since it was introduced.

We've had two a year and while it hasn't stopped Covid entirely the twice I've had it have been very mild and not remotely fatal.

I didn’t realise they were dropping the COVID vaccine for the younger pensioners…. I think that it’s worse when you have both the COVID and flu jab together. I’ve always waited a couple of weeks between them. The worse one was the first for me…

Re: Covid Jab?
I've been having both Covid and Flu Jabs since they were offered. In the Autumn of the last two years I've had both jabs together, one in each arm with no counter effects at all, not even a sore arm. I've had an email from my surgery saying I will be offered a Covid Jab this year, because of my age, and they will contact me to book an appointment in due course. If I'm offered a Flu jab at the same time I'll accept it. I haven't had any after effect to any of the flu or Covid vaccinations so I don't see any reason to refuse one. I have had Covid once, back in the Summer of 2023. If it hadn't been for the fact that Covid was around I wouldn't have thought that I was suffering from anything other than a Summer type cold. Maybe I was just lucky or maybe because I had been given the vaccination that I had such a mild dose, who knows. Some of my similar aged relations have started saying they don't think they'll bother with the vaccine this year, however they do also say they will accept the flu vaccination. This seems a bit odd to me, but everyone makes up their own mind.

There are a good few million around the world that now don’t have that choice… that’s all I need to know as to whether or not I have the covid jab.CaroleF wrote: 06 Aug 2025, 14:32I've been having both Covid and Flu Jabs since they were offered. As I understand things having a covid jab gives you some protection against any new variants?

We've had the stereo arm job with nothing worse than a tender arm and just feeling a little muzzy for 24 hours.
